JDM HEADER
I own a 2000 ITR. I just recently bought the DC Sports JDM header..
i'm trying to decide weather to modify my factory cat or install a straight pipe.
Somebody told me that if i take my cat out, that my check engine light will come on and that my computer will go into "LIMP MODE" and that i would actually lose horsepower..
but then my boss told me that the second O2 sensor after the cat is there only to measure the cat's efficiency and will not put the ecu in "limp mode" even if the check engine light is on. he says the computer will "LEARN" to compensate using the other sensors.
WHO IS CORRECT???????
im actually considering trading the JDM header for the USDM header and bolting that on to my stock cat just to save the trouble when i go through smog check..

get a test pipe

I know an OBD2 secret... neener neener neeeee-neeerr!!
Did you know that even though OBD2 Integra's & Civic's throw a check engine light for that damn sensitive 2nd 02 sensor, that the ECU doesn't actually go into safe mode!? huh..bet you didnt know that!
This also applies to the knock sensor as well.

I have the same setup with a testpipetech test pipe with the 2nd O2 bung (w/ cat material inside) and I have no CEL yet. I've been running it for about 2 mo. now and am totally pleased. Fitment is perfect, although I did have to extend the O2 wires to reach the new location, nonetheless, worth the extra 5 mins. Also, if you do get a CEL for the 2nd O2, you actually don't go into so called 'limp-mode'. I'm not positive, but I beleive the only drawback is a 2-degree timing retard if anything at all! Good luck!
if you take the cat off your check engine light will come on , but the car will not go into limp mode, , your boss is right about the 2nd 02 but it will never "learn " the test pipe and go off it will always be on.the 2nd 02 works on a smaller scale of reading than the first or so as long as its ready less its happy . some say if you put a 10k resistor in the sending wire on the 2nd 02 it will put the reading of the 2nd 02 where it needs to be. i got a test pipe on my car and its definitly worth it, my cat only goes back on for the 30 minutes it has to and then its nothing but hydrocarbons for everyone after that
