Default can you run the wastegate with no spring????

i did this and my turbo spooled up for the first hour of driving. Now today when I drive the wastegate smacks open and releases before the turbo can spool.

could I have damaged a seal somehow?

the diaphram is fine.....should I have not run it without a spring in the wastegate?

Ummm...yeah it's there for a reason. The spring dictates when the WG opens without it the second any sort of pressure enters it will open.
