Dimmer not working on my Gauge cluster, but works fine on my other items?
WHY I HAVE AN RS CLUSTER
If you have a question about the rs cluster or any silly *** comment to make on why its in there and not an si cluster feel free to pm me instead of spamming up my post.

Anyways after doing the install on my 99-00 EM1 the lights on my cluster are just a stale amber color and the dimmer doesnt seem to work on it. I unplug the cluster and plug the si one back in and it works fine, take this one and plug it back in and no dimmer.
Everything else in (ie: radio, climate controls) all work fine with the dimmer. But oddly enough the cluster doesnt. Any idea's people?

Not to be a thread jacker but my stock cluster lights go off and on all the time. That's it, everything else stays lit. Could it be the circuits on the back or what? And I found out through frustation that when you punch the steering wheel the lights come back on.
Yeah my friend has the same problem, its because of the cluster, he has a VTi cluster for his EG and supposely they werent meant to be dim thats why it has that dark amberish color to em. And yes all of his other lights work fine as well with the dimmer.

wow what a punk... they don't! mine does not either, nor does any one with a jdm cluster that i know of

The JDM cluster in my del sol dims... There is no spot for the dimmer **** to come through the cluster, but I just plugged it in and left the potentiometer behind the cluster... If I want to adjust the brightness, I have to remove the cluster... You can probably do it, but you would have to find the dimmer wires, and locate where they would go on the JDM cluster... even then, it might not work. I have no exp. w/ EK clusters.

Interesting!
Well I couldn't find anything concerning my question much less for my car since they seem to be mis matching the years of the clusters and ecu's/vehicles they are going in.
I did read in multiple posts that my mph is supposed to be off and being I now have a cluster reading km/h I am all fucked up lol. I have no idea how fast im going, and it said in those posts that the needle position is supposed to be the same and im supposed to "remember " where 80 was before yada yada.
But if my tach reads correctly and the needle bounces at 8200 just like on the stock cluster even though the redline on this cluster is 8200.
Then I would faithfully assume that the km/h are reading right since its a same year cluster. And I seriously doubt ukdm and cdm owners have different ecu's.
Either way its pretty wierd.

the MPH is calculated by your VSS soooo.... the KPH should be accurate... When I first installed my cluster, I made a MPH > KPH cheat sheet... I believe the equasion would be X mph x 1.609 = KPH
Some of the more useful conversions
MPH KM/H KM/H MPH
5 = 8.04
10 = 16.09

yeah my jdm cluster doesnt dim either but oh well.
for your speed reading problem.. just swap the speedos. well i know i can do this on my eg cluster. can you do it with ek clusters? ( never looked at the back of one before,but think you should be able to)

they do not dim, from what ive seen/heard.
In JDM land they have amber so it wont be too bright to get into your eyes, but at the same time it does let light through so you can see it with no glare
peace
