Default Road Raced the H22 Hatchback.... again (with better suspension)

Here is a quick vid of one lap (kinda slow run cause it was still early in the morning... Right-Click and Save - about 14 MB). I was getting used to the setup since I hadn't driven the car on the track with the setup listed below, nor do I drive the car that much on the road.

JDM H22A w/LSD tranny (stock OEM)
Stock clutch
DC header (cut flange, welded to a race cat, bolted to the B-pipe)
Greddy exhaust
Completely gutted car w/6-pt full welded cage
ITR 4-lug suspension w/new Azenis tires
11" Prelude rotors up front
1" ITR MC & BB w/SS brake lines
ITR front & rear sway bars
Ohlin shocks
GC coilovers with rates for the H22 motor

Ok, now on with the experience. Compared to the LAST WRITE UP when I had the car setup for drag racing and no mods to the suspension, the car actually handled much better and I could fly through the turns much faster. Again, some things to mention when driving a H22 Civic through the turns, you want to stay on the gas or the rear end is going to get too loose. I only wish I had some adjustable shocks that I could stiffen up a bit more in the rear. With the setup I had, the Azenis tires would get too hot and the rear end would want to slide a little bit through some hard turns when going fast (same turns where last time my rear end just shot out and I spun in the dirt).

When driving a H-series Civic on the track, you notice a little bit more "body roll" feel in the car than you would with a B-series hatch going through the same course.... or maybe it was just me thinking that . But with a good tight suspension (caged helped), and some good tires, the H22 Civic can still carve through a road course pretty well. The torque is great also.... didn't really (have to) shift past 6500 for the most past and stayed in 3rd gear for a lot of the track, except on the corkscrew turn (2nd gear) and some longer turns and straights (4th and even 5th on the straights). Another thing that made a difference.... the seat. Last time I was sitting in some GSR cloth seats and it felt good, but you had to fight against the lean of the car through corners. This time in the Sparco EVO2 seat, I was planted in there nice & tight and didn't have to worry about leaning against the car when going through a turn faster..... might have had something to do with the "feel" of the body roll.

The track day was fun. Jeff652 (from here) had his H23-VTEC EG hatchback out there... Type S pistons, Crower cams, Euro R head & manifold (plenty of clearance with the firewall and the HCP mounts in his car), and Euro R LSD tranny. Before he had some problems, he said the car felt great and was flying through the track. I only wish I could've ridden with him in the car to see how it felt, especially on the Hoosiers..... Jeff, I know you had the in-car camera also... post up a vid!

Quick pic of the car:

Good stuff as always. Which editing software are you using for the videos? I want to start making some videos and put some music in the background.

Sorry for being such an idiot, Newman do you sell that red hook that you have in front of your car?

Hrmm, maybe I'll pull something off the camera. The apature was screwed up so the track is almost whited out. Maybe it's worth it just 'cause of the ride though hehe.

I like this pic the best, great shot:

Only real good shot I have of the manifold. I'm getting too lazy to take pics these days LOL.

Newman, your definetely welcome to a ride the next time we meet.

:-)
