JDM B18c hp???
I just heard that the JDM b18c motor doesnt push the whole 180 stock, and they push about 170 stock, is that true? because I dont wanna go pay about 3k for a 170hp JDM motor and its suppose to be rated 180hp. I also heard that the motor pushed 178 stock as well, which one is it, because a buddie of mine just told me that they have 98 octane in Japan and thats why its rated 180hp, so wats the actual crank hp and whp for the JDM GSR motor?
I have one. It's 180ps or about 176 hp.
Japan uses the equavlent of 94 R+M /2 octane, even though their pump says 99 RON octane. With R+M /2 method it's about 94.
Greater octane doesn't not make more power in itself. Just that with more octane you can advance the timing more, thereby possibily making more power. The power from JDM B18c is from the 10.6 compression as compared to the USDM's 10.0.
If you want to do this, you need to by 93 gas. Otherwise, it will ping like crazy. I had this problem with 91 gas. 93 is NOT avaliable in California. In FL, you are in luck. If in CA, then you need to use TORCO, like me. Now it runs great.

I have no idea. Timing, fuel map, bigger cams (lower dynamic compression maybe), better head breathing because of port and polish, etc, etc, etc. But I feel it with 91. Raised to 93 it runs fine.

I had a JDM Si-VTEC with a mugen cat back and intake (short ram) it made 178bhp (crank) on the dyno with 17s!!!! I was using our regular 95octane fuel and timing advanced to +17degrees. I think that the higher compression and slightly different ECU maps is where the difference lies between USDM B18c's and JDM motors, plus JDM integras have a larger header collector also (2.25")

I see JDM B18Cs on ebay going for stupid money, i know i'm on theother side of the atlantic but we can buy used JDM B18c's for around $800 for a good one, in fact we can get a whole 93 -94 JDM Si-VTEC for around $1700 for one with a beat up body but usually the engine/drive train/tranny are good. Get a USDM motor and spend what you save on a set of CTR cams/valve train and you'll have a better motor than a stock JDM one is my advice.
there's no such thing as a JDM B18C1. perhaps you meant just B18C (non R spec). And yeah, you're right. 8 more hp for a few thousand. Whooptie freakin doo. For a bit more you could get a B18C5 and get a lot more power.
