hey im getting a d16y8 40000 miles on it how much boost can i give it already has headers cold air intake stage 2 clutch and going to go short shifter can i also beat some b 16as??
and what turbo kit can i get??? is greddy a good one?
If I am not mistaken, the D16Y8 can handle up to 10psi of boost on stock internals. I would run around 5 or 6psi just to be safe.
The headers you have now will be gone for a turbo manifold. A clutch that can stand more boost is good, but it wont affect on how much boost the engine can handle.
A greddy kit is a good kit, but it does not come with a intercooler or a BOV. Some people would suggest the Edlebrock Kit. It is more of a "Complete" kit, but you will have to fork up more cash. Also, alot of people would suggest building your own turbo kit. I believe this is the best way, but if you are just starting out or don't have access to shops and whatnot, I would suggest the Greddy kit. The greddy kit is a good and cheap kit.
When and if you get a turbo kit, you will have to start thinking about better injectors and Fuel Management(ex: Hondata.)

i will soon be running 10-12 psi on my stock d16y8, if u run an FMU and inline 5psi is safe. if u run 5-10psi get DSM 390 or 450cc injectors, and get a vafc to tune and run them. the best bet it to get hondata or Urberdata. ill be running urberdata cause its cheap.

You should piece togeather your own turbo kit. Then you get exactly what you want and it's not much more(in some cases cheaper) than your standard kit, it just depends on how good of stuff you get. Good luck!

I've beat GReddy Turbo'd 92-95 EX/Si's before. Big deal. It come's down to driver and how the car is layed out. Let's not open this can of worms huh??

Wow you kids really have no clue about turbo do you. It doesn't matter how much PSI you run. Hell you could run 30 psi on a stock block if you had a small enough turbo. How much PSI you run does not verify where your motor will blow. It's how much HP you plan on running. If you want a safe daily driver than you will only want to boost up to roughly 200 hp. Anything over 200 on a sohc is pushing it for reliability.
Happyman hit it on the head. My D16's #4 rod went with about 260 whp. I'd say 220whp or less for safety. Most d's take about 10-12 psi to get around the 220 mark. D16 rods are really weak, your playing russian roulet with your motor with to much hp on them.

300whp has been done on stock D Series blocks, but it's not a good idea for a reliable daily driver.
