how do i determine whether gsr block is legit?

Default how do i determine whether gsr block is legit?

like the title says.Im interested in buying a gsr block.Its a 94 gsr shortblock.Where on the block would i find the vin? and where do i go to find out if its stolen or not? who do i go to and see whether its legit or not?

94 gsr's don't have a vin on the block
only the block stamping

Yeh, that I would like to know also. I'm planin to buy a motor too and is pretty scared of gettin a shady or hot motor Anyway to find out if any engine you buy is legit or hot or not???? Wasn't there a website you can just checked the vin # of the motor to see if its legit or not??? Forgot...

Ask your local PD..

They can run the numbers under the block code for you, if it doesn't have a vin.

I live in CA. I went to dmv said they can only do motors with vin #. The 94 and 95 gsr dont have vin #. But they do have a the stamp on the front of the block. I believe the 96-up gsr have the vin #. the stamp is a serial #. And the CHP can do it. But the owner and block have to come in and they can check it.But i dont think the guy im about to buy it from will go out of his way to do that to sell it to me.Im trying to find a way find out by me just doing presenting the serial # to someone to find out if its legit or not.

call up different chp offices, some VIN officers will give you the info some of them wont. Just keep trying.
