Stock exhaust heat shield OR Thermal wrap stuff
Well, I installed my tanabe SRM exhaust and at some rpms (sub 1000, brake depressed) the heat shield rattles against something (guessing the exhaust pipe). Any tips in fixing this? Would removing the heatshield and wraping the exhaust in a thermal wrap be the best route? Any suggestions?
what is the downside of just leaving the heat shield off? i have a 94 ex coupe and when i hit around 4000 rpm it rattles .. i don't like the sound especially when im taking off in 1st n 2nd ... very unsoothing.

i dont have any exhaust sheilds on my civic.(same problem as you) i presume your talkin about the sheild above the cat and the sheild toward the back of the car right. i took mine off and havent had any problems in 2yrs. so i say take em off.
yea im talking about the heat shield that's under the car about in the middle of it right above the cat ... im gonna get the haynes book ... n see how to take it off hehe thx
Remove the heat shields period. All they are good for is rattling and rusting out.
DO NOT USE EXHAUST WRAP. Has anyone that is recomending it actually using it and have it for over a year?
Everyone I know who's used it has had problems. As the header/exhaust heat's and cools moisture is developed stays saturated there causing premature rust. With a stainless piece this is not a problem, but there have been issues with stress cracks developing as well.

My brother had a 77 MGB. The amazing engine design put the carborator right about the exhaust manifold. He ran that car in horrible storms and abused the crap out of it. His exhaust manifold was wrapped to keep the heat from going right back in the carb. Ran that way for a few years and never had an exhaust problem. He did have stainless steel manifold. I've never used it on a Civic, but I'd imagine if a british engine can put up with it, anything can.
I wouldn't recommend wrapping anything with the ability to rust, as it will obviously rust rather badly. I just figured that would go without saying.
