Falken Azenis review: after 15,000 miles of use

How the hell is everybody. Well I'm writing this review for all you honda heads that are undecided about the tires you want to run on your ride. I've had my Azenis for quite some time now, and al together I put about 15,000 miles of solid use on them.
Application:
First of all, this is NOT a drag tire. I know alot of people who are using them to run 1/4s but this tire will NOT decrease your e.t., unless you are running around 180+ to the wheels. anything less than that, and the sheer mass of the tire will definetely increase your time. My best time with 19 lb Michelins was a 15.0, while my best time with the 22-23 lb Azenis on was a 15.2. Also, wheel hop off of the line is insane with this tire, and I'd imagine that it puts a beating on your tranny because there is practically no slippage to the ground.
Now, if you're into autocross, this IS the tire for you. This tire grips like nobody's business , even under the tightest turns. You can pull off some ridiculous speeds going through corners with this tire. I would imagine that this tire would up your cornering speeds by a good 10 mph or so compared to most other high performance tires. I can only imagine what it would do with some dialed-in Konis or KYBs. Just dont try this when it is raining, because the tire is made of hard compound rubber that will not respond well to wetness. When it is raining, I usually drive about 10 mph slower then everyones else just to be on the safe side
Longevity: Alot of people complain about the fact that Azenis do not last long. My opinion is that they have a decent tread life, unless you are hammering them all the time. Mine lasted about a year before I had to replace them, and at one point I was running them hard pretty much every weekend. So for 75 bucks a pop, I really dont think you can go wrong with the balance of treadlife and grip that you get.
Strength: I dont know what it is about this tire, but it will not blow under any circumstance. I have gone over 3 nails which are still embedded in my tires, and I have never had to put more air in them due to lowering pressure at all. Very sturdy tire, and the side walls are as stiff as they come. There is absolutely 0 lateral play, even under the harshest turning conditions.
final verdict:
A little too heavy for drag unless you are putting down some serious hp, but perfect autocross tire. Good, solid, sturdy tire, that will keep you planted on the road no matter what speed you throw at it. If you're into taking corners hard, and want insane grip, get this tire. If you looking to set your car up for drag applications and you are not heavily modded, look for something lighter.

good writeup
this should be noted by some that are looking into Azeni's. You should remember this thread title so you can look it up under the search function.

Well I've heard good things about the falken ze-512s, BFG is supposed to be good too. Since I'm only putting down 138 to the wheels right now, I will probably run the ze-512s due to their lightness ( I think the 195/50/15s are like 18 lbs or something).

cant believe those tires lasted you that long...all my sets of tires dont even last through half a year!!! I've ran dunlops sp9000/w10, kumho's 712 and some other ones, capitols something, nitto's 450/555/and some other ones.....i've personally liked the dunlops out of all of them. I have yet to try the yokohamas and falkens.....I've just heard that the azenis are a rough riding tire, road noise is horrible, and they wear way too quick with the way my friends and I drive.....I'll still pick up a set either way from your write up, but also I want to auto x this summer
thanks for the details!

good writeup.
i can vouch for the azenis at the dragstrip...ran 14.98 on falken ziex 502 [or 512] and when i got the azenis, i was hitting 15.2, 15.3 on the same setup...wheel hop was hella bad with them..you have to really warm them up and rev high on your launch.

I would guess that it is close to stock. My friend got 21k out of his azeni's but his suspension is stock and he doesnt really drive that hard. With my alignment settings and my driving I got 1700mi out of my last set of azeni's

It depend on how you drive

ive autox'ed azenis 3 times in the rain and they gripped just fine. I was up there with evos and wrxs. I think people give it less credit than it really deserves.
also about the strength of the tire. I had a flat but the sidewall was so stiff the wheel never touched the ground. way cool since i didnt have to pull over on the side of the road.

Try vulcantire.com
I got mine from discounttiredirect a month ago. I was hesitant to get them since they seem to be the HT Hype product of the year and I hadnt been incredibly enthusiastic with my experience with them in puddles on the highway in the past, but these tires rock.
I was looking for something to offer me straight line grip and not last a few months like drag radials (which are also $$$$$). I am totally pleased with the grip...Ive hooked in 1st before, where even 2nd wasnt happening. Making 248/174, which isnt too huge still makes traction tough, but with these tires its a lot more predictable and all around stickier. They also handle turns wonderfully. My only gripes are they kick pebbles up like crazy, treadwear is low (although high for the grip you get IMO), and theyre kind of loud. You have to expect all those negatives with a performance tire though.

I love these tires, especially for the price.
They do excel in the corners...but I've had great success drag racing on them as well.
Didn't have any problems in the rain whatsoever.

I dont know wtf you all are doing to get 4000 miles out of your tires, or half a years use, but I get ALOT more mileage out of mine then that. Ive got a good 2-3k on mine and they still look brand new, ofcourse all in town/highway driving, no trips to the drag strip and no auto-Xing either...why did I buy azenis again?
