Is 500 good deal for d16y8
I have been searching constantly for a good swap and today at a local junk yard my friend works for came across a 98 civic ex with a d16y8 with only 63,000 miles on it.I do have some concern since the car is wrecked mainly on the front but he said it would be ok & he could let me have it for 500 out the door complete swap.I think this not a bad deal but i was wondering if anyone knew of places that i could find a cheap replacement motor for old and tired 354,000 mile d15b6 88 crx hf motor.only reason for wanting to go with this set up is i hear the d16y8's are one of best and most powerful sohc civic motors honda has made. i would also like to know how hard this swap would be considering the motor is obd2 (i think if not please correct me)and my car is obdo plus the mounts on the motor i believe are different(IF this not true also please help out and correct me) all and any info is greatly needed and apprieciated.
any suggestions & oppions are welcomed thanks

I think the big thing you will have to do for this is convert the car to OBD-2. Probably need to wire in the vtec as well. Since you are already MPFI, thats done. It is a D series engine, so I'm pretty sure the mounts would be the same for all D series chasis.

get a conv harness obd0 to obd1 thay all have instructions on how to wire get a si or dx tranny use your complet mount from drivers side and p28 from 5speed 92-95 ex or si and thats all i thank
That's a good deal for a complete Y8 swap. Just for comparrisons sake, I got my D16Z6 from a 95 civic with 54000 miles for $600... without transmission, ecu, or dizzy.
About going obd2 from obd0..... you can't. I was just like you when I was going to upgrade to a newer D series; I wanted to go with the y8 but another guy with a Z6 informed me that the swap would never be CA legal since I couldn't wire up to obd2
So now I have my 95 civic under the hood with about 10,000 after the swap. It's obd1 with a p28. I started out staying obd0 and and I would certainltly reccomend anyone to switch to obd1. Anyways blah blah hope this helps you.
