Default Do I need more oil?

Done 2 road course events in my R. Last oil change was done in late August. Going to Summit Point full course this weekend - do I need to put more in? How much did I burn already (guessing) at the track days?

If you have already run 2 track events on the same oil change, change the oil. I will run a MAX of two events on one oil change.

Other folks... what do you do?

Oh, forgot to answer the how much burned question... pull the dipstick and look. I wouldn't even begin to guess at that.

yeah Ross...check that dipstick! I'd definitely change it for good measure, though. Such cheap and easy insurance.

I burn about 3/4 to 1 quart a day at the track. It's like a 2 stroke. Adding gas? Better add oil. We'll see how it does after a proper rebuild.

You could've burned a quart or more, you could've burned none. Don't top it off, change it. Definitely get some fresh new Mobil 1 5W30 and a new filter on there before Summit Point!

Steve C, I take it that figure is from your ITR?

So I guess my pre-track maintenance will go like this:

change oil (or is topping off ok?)
change filter - necessary or not? Im kinda on a budget
bleed brakes/change fluid

anything else you guys can think of?

Comon Mr. Rapoport, I think 3 people have told you to change the oil, not top it off. Change the filter too. Hopefully you can float the 25-50 bucks for a Mobil 1 change. Hell, get your own oil and filter and you can change it at my place if you like, I've got everything you could need, just send me an IM if you want to.
You needn't purge your brake system unless it's been over a year or your pedal is feeling abnormally spongy, but it sure wouldn't hurt. The only other thing I can think of is a tire rotation and balance, but you can do that after Summit.
Oh and check to make sure your rotors and pads and lug nut torque are within spec and youre wheels don't budge when you give them a good tug.

Since you are a regular racer, I would recommend putting a strong magnet on oil pan before you drain...

Geez, I never burned that much oil in my Integra at the track. BTW, I dunno... but it would seem that I've been told many a time to bleed the brakes before each track event. Relatively simple, and it's one less thing you might need to do in between sessions if you go out for the first one and then realize "oh darn, there IS air in my lines".

CHANGE the oil AND filter... August is "old" oil, especially if it's Dino and not synthetic. You are going to be running your engine hard, and at high revs, for an extended period of time. Not worth the risk to ME not to keep my oil fresh for track events. It is your decision and your car though.

Have fun at SP (i assume). I'll be at CMP.

Flush the oil and replace the filter.

Install a magnetic drain plug when you can.

Bring an extra qt. with you to the track.

I change the oil and transmission fluid after every event in my car.

You'll notice in the Spoon videos that they actually advise against synthetic oil, calling it a waste of money if you're on the severe service schedule. You'll also notice that people who use synthetic oils consume more oil.

I have always used regular oil, and I have yet to use any oil at all at a track event.
George is right, I use Mobil 1 , and do consume quite a bit of oil at the track. It is also prob a waste for me to use the mobil 1 sonce it is about 450 a qt, and I change it about every 3 weeks.

Change you oil, might be a good time to change the tranny fluid as well.
