i misshifted again today...
...trying to go around a semi and i misshifted to 2nd from 3rd instead of going to 4th.
Thats twice in 3 months, i was just curious on what serious problems misshifting causes, even if i drop the clutch for like 1/2 a second.

It depends, did you red line in 3rd? If you did then that could be a bad thing. Mainly what you'll do is bend your valves and mess up your valve springs. Does your car run ike it did when you first had it?
Get a Short Shift adapter, Like Neuspeed or DC-Sports (like I have) and then get a Momo or a Sparco shift ****(one with set screws)...The **** will have a 2-3.0" depth to it and will go completely down over your shift rod. You will be amazed at the difference in throw length and wish it were the first mod you had done....
point your hand backwards and away from you when you shift into 4th, you are WAY less likely to mishift, trust me I know the 3rd to 2nd is what killed my Type S when I had it (2 valves and 2 cylinders= $8k fix)
$8000??? wow you could've bought a k20 engine +shipping +turbo +installation!!
im assuming you're exaggerating a lil to get to the point
so how do i go about checking it out? i just want to get it checked out before i actually drop a turbo in. cause if there is problems ill just go ahead and get a motor swap

actually no im not exaggerating at all, if the dealership would not have covered it a K20A2 bottom end and head plus labor to put it in was a little over 8000....not very cheap
needless to say i never trusted myself on the 6 speed again sold it and got a base

notec is right, I had the same problems, and it seems to be fixed since I changed my habits while shifting. The high shifter on the Si makes it especially easy to get into a habit of pulling towards yourself when you shift because you are naturally grabbing it from the side instead of from above.
Before, I was always grabbing the shifter with my palm facing me and pulling or pushing... the problem with doing that is on the up shift, if you make an error, its most likely going to be a downshift instead of an upshift.
So now, when I go from 2nd to third, I put the outer edge of my palm down on the top ****...the part below my ring finger...the push up and slightly away... the only error I can make is going to 5th instead of 3rd.
When Im going from 3rd to 4th, I make a hook-like grab, with my palm facing outward, thumb facing down. Again, you are pushing slightly out instead of pulling inward...and reverse is too far off to engage if you miss.
This seems to do the trick for me. it just takes some practice.

I hope you don't apply that cowardly logic to everything in your life.
"Well, I dribbled on the seat: better chop off my **** and install a vagina so there's no chance of that ever happening again."
Might as well have if you copped out on manual transmissions

That sux, the type S has a really close gear box, i wonder if you saw the pic of a guy who redlined 3rd and shifted to 2nd, parts blown all over, it was nasty. The type S has taken many peoples money from their gear box. Wonder if its cheap to get a diff one? Or if they make them? I have no idea?

A course in how to drive would be cheaper and more effective.

Yeah it would be, or you can just pull it a tad to the right when shifting. You wont go into reverse. I have driven a type S and the gear box is closer than most cars. Most people pull it a little right when shifting to 4th and a little left to shift to 2nd. I dont think that you can go to 4th from 1st unless you pull it way over to the right. Right?

Do you guys think a SS would help this misshifting curse? I would think only because of the notchyness. But then I think with an even smaller gear box it could be worse. I was thinking about investing in one. Can't say I havent misshifted myself but I was fortunate.

You can know how to drive and still misshift in a rsx. I watch this video from japan and this guy misshifted, but luckily he caught it in time, and got the clutch back in. Asians own us in driving so i dont think that its the people. Its partly the car
PIMPASSBEOTCH,
Read the April issue of Super Street with the Si Challenge. Both Roger Foo and Shawn Hiller had misshift issues in the Skunk2 civic that basically toasted thier chances in that contest. I would say both of them know how to drive better than most or all of us ever will.
The fact is: **** happens.
There's nothing to be gained in calling people DUMB ***. Even if it makes you feel better about yourself, it doesn't help anyone here.

Whats so hard about shifting?
from 2nd to 3rd pop it in neutral, then clutch and push up.
3rd to 4th, pop it in neutral, clutch then push down.
3rd and 4th are already lined up. Practice more then you can slam the gears in.

Just pay attention to what your doin. Half of all misshifts you cant control, like someone above said, **** happens, even to the best of us. The other half though is carelessness. i did it twice in the first month i got the car. That was 6 months ago and havnt had any since. Obvioulsy i have more practice now, but i also concentrate most on shifting when im drivin hard.
