Salvage Title
Is $2000.00 too much for a 91 RS teg with a salvage title? It was purchased in california by my brother for $4500 in 99. It was a theft recovery. I was thinking to pick it up. Just concerned about resale. In N.Y. area salvage title is like voodoo. In cali it seems commmon. Any thoughts?
I say thoroughly inspect the car yourself, inquire about any past problems (since its your brother I'm assuming he'll be honest with you), and take a long test drive while listening for any potential problem sounds. A salvaged title is not necessarily the kiss of death (unless you consider resale value issues) as long as the vehicle was rebuilt by a competant mechanic.
My Integ has a salvaged title. The car was in a 'minor' (according to the guy who sold it to me) front end collision. Well, in the 10 months since I've owned the car I've discovered a lot of clues that would lead me to believe the collision was more significant than originally disclosed to me. When I bought the car I was more excited about its shiny exterior and low price tag than I was about giving it a thorough inspection. Despite some minor problem areas, the car has been great. I have replaced a few things beyond the scope of my normal mods and I now couldn't be happier with my car. I now have a clean, good looking Integra and I saved an arm and a leg!

I wouldn't buy it unless you were going to make a race car out of it or something. Like you said, it's a black mark that most people aren't going to want any part of. Maybe if you got a screaming deal on it, but even then you might have a hard time unloading it.
