Default Hardwiring radar detector behind dash

Ok, I want to hardwire my Valentine One and have the wire go behind the dash... Right now its in front and I don't like it. Does anyone have it coming up by the window behind the dash? I saw this done on a CL once and pondered how they did it..

Yea, and that still didn't answer my question of hardwiring it behind the dash. I want the radar detector on the window, not a concealed unit behind the clock, I just want to run the power behind the dash.

so wire it into the clock. thats what i did. the clock has 4 terminals, power (acc), ground, and backup, and illum. wire it to the acc. and ground

I believe its the 2 outside pins of the V1's RJ-11 connector.

You can also run a wire from the fusebox, and then hide the wire bwt. the dash and windshield. It's not rocket science, just use something to "tuck" it in there.

where does the wire come up from? i have no problem hardwiring it, its already hard wired, i just need a place to pop up between the dash and windshield to run the power

ok. its already hardwired. i don't need to hard wire it. i don't want to put it where the clock is. i like to know what time it is. what i want to do is leave it on the window, but have the power coming up behind the dash. i don't want it coming from the clock, the clock probably won't end up fitting right.

what i need to know is where do i pull the power up from behind the dash?

and my god PLEASE DON'T SAY CLOCK AGAIN

Ugh...

You don't have to pull up anything, trust me. I work in a stereo/alarm install bay.

but where does it come up from? you said tuck it in between the dash and window, are you saying i should run power up the side around the dash from the bottom to the top then from the side to the middle? thats all i need, how to get from my hardwire source (tapped into cig lighter) to the radar detector...

i don't NEED it, but i don't like the cord there. its hardwired pretty far low, and the rubber on the cord is starting the break from the stress. i'm pretty busy, so i don't have time to play with the car. i wish i did..

You will have to remove the dash partially to get a wire around the top of the dash, since for some reason you dont want it coming thru next to the clock, which you do not need to remove the dash for, which is why I said clock. Which is where my wire went thru, on a retractable phone cord that coiled up when it wasnt being used.

I didnt say put the radar detector in the clock housing. I said run the wire from there.

You may have to notch the dash behind the clock facia, but you wouldnt be able to see it with the clock in place. An alternative would be to drill a small hole in the upper middle vent duct and run it thru the vent. Any other way is going to leave exposed wire running along the dash. You could also go from the dome light, but the headliner is a bitch to remove.

You run that wire from wherever you tapped into (I used fusebox)...along the bottom of the dash, up the side of the dash by the door, and along the crack bwt. the dash and windshield. If you tuck it in tight, it will not ever move out unless you pull it out. I've had zero problems w/mine, and it's been a few years since I installed it. And...my car sees various events throughout the year, so it gets tossed around a bit.
