Will my brakes be ok?
I am doing the Summit Pt 2-day driving school this coming weekend. My stock brakes/pads/fluid have seen 2 mildly abusive track days already on the Summit Pt. short course, this will be my first time doing the full. Do I need new pads/fluid ASAP or should the stockers be ok for at least this weekend? Thanks guys.
I would flush the fluid for sure.
The pads may hold up but a better set of pads would make the weekend a little bit easier. One les thing to worry about.
It should be 65-70 (with a chance of rain)... so I am not sure if the pads would be required.

The thing is that mail sucks at my school. If I ordered pads from, let's say, Carbotech, they wouldn't get to me until after the event. Jon Felton is RacerJon right?
Jon is going to be away for a while, so it might be difficult to get stuff threw him, if you call carbotech, if they have them on the shelf, they will get to you in time.. Carbotech Panther Plus pads.. 125$ or so..
By the way, the big track is a lot easier on brakes then the small one..

Upgrade the fluid for sure. If you're short on $$ get some heavy duty Ford fluid. It's a lot less then the other stuff.
I went with HP Plus pads just for my fronts and I'm impressed. I wouldn't say they would be absolutely necessary, but it would be a good option.
Good luck.

Changing the brake pads is VERY simple. There's one bolt to remove on the front of the caliper and it lifts up to expose the pads. You can remove them like so, and put in the goods.
Flushing your fluid requires more patience...and it also helps to have a second set of hands.

Ross, Find me at summit point.. I'll show you how to put new pads on.. VERY simple.. although make sure to have your pad on before you come, so you can bed them in.. directions for bedding them in comes with the pads..

Nah, he can just bed them in at the track. What do you think all the race car drivers do? Just go easy, cuz the brakes will be somewhat unpredictable during the bed in session, BUT do make sure that you get them nice and hot.
I need a 1st and 2nd gear blocker

I didn't realize how many people would be there. I've never been to Summit Point. I've only been to Heartland Park (Topeka, KS) and there's some places that you can do a little breaking in. Not 100mph-0 blasts or anything.
Actually, I left the track briefly and did some braking in (pun intended) on the access roads to the track.

Absolutely change your fluid, and pads aren't a bad idea either. I did a lapping day at Gingerman raceway and I boiled my brake fluid very quickly. I also basically destroyed my pads, as they couldn't handle the heat that built up in the rotors (or at least this is my explanation as to why I only have a few mm of pad left in the front). When I got off the track my front rotors were glowing red hot. You can build some pretty serious heat up if you stay out on the track for a while, so make sure you have a pad that can handle it.
