Default >>> The Great Header Test <<<

Hi fellas,
Over in the Type R forum, we've organized a header test, and we'd like yoiur support. Forever it seems there is a lot of discussion over which header is better, for what application, etc, you've heard it many times before. Well we are renting a dyno for a day, and have got a pretty decent number of headers to test:

2.5" Collector (JDM)
Spoon
Mugen
Toda
J's Racing
HyTech
SMS
DC Sports
OEM JDM 4-1

& of course the USDM 2.25" collector

The purpose of this test is to gain a baseline comparison between the big guns. The test will be done on a stock ITR, with the only modification being an SMS header-back exhaust. Same car, same day, same dyno, same temperature. We should finally be able to compare these headers accurately, and back any claims with back-to-back dyno charts. This is invaluable!

Now, the reason I'm here: money
We've rasied $448.37 We need another $251.63 to raise the $700 needed for the dyno.

I've thrown in $50 from my pocket, as I think it's a small price to pay considering the benefit of the test results and making all us Honda guys more knowledgable.

I ask for your support, because we do need help to pull this off.

Also, there is a slight chance we will be able to "sell" the results to a mag (some participants have contacts with the publishers). If this is the case, all profit will be returned to those who have helped and/or honda-tech.com.

Please read this "Official" header test thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=80497

Please paypal your contribution to todasi@chartermi.net

Thanks for your support!

I'm sure everyone wants it done, and everyone's going to be waiting for the results.
Well then I ask, what are the results are worth to everyone?

and maybe you hit on something there. While what I suggest is not something I would do, and is probably not in the spirit of what you are trying to accomplish... If you can't get enough contributions, pay for it yourself (if you can) and then only disclose the results to the people who paid (or otherwise contributed with their time.)
Kinda shitty, but hell, if no-one wants to pitch in, then they don't care about the results either. I know how annoying it is to make all kinds of efforts to get something done and then have people not participate, usually backing out as soon as you mention that it's gonna cost'em a little $$$ - that's why I gave up on those efforts long ago.
And btw, I have not contributed myself because I am not interested in the results - I don't have a Type R, and the header I have satisfies my requirements.

I feel that if we can show that others have contributed, perhaps that will convince others to jump on the wagon. It can't hurt to try.

That's perfectly understandable, although personally, I think the results can benefit some more than others (ITR owners vs. other B series motor owners), nonetheless, if at least for brand name comparison, if not a future purchase, the results would still interest me to some degree. i.e. I would be interested, of course to a lesser degree, in the results of a similar test on the B18C1.

I would send 50 if you test H22a headers.. Should be easy considering there are only about 2 heavy hitters, Mugen and Hytech..

I have no problems giving some money.

But how do we know that it is not going to fall through?

Thanks for your interest Bob. We got a lot of people supporting this, I don't think it will fall through . The date is already set with the dyno shop.

This will leave us about $200 short, $200 I don't personally have this time of the season. As everyone knows I took on this test for the benefit of all, and to spark conversation and debate over the outcome. I cannot begin to show my appreciation for the donations in both $ and headers for this test, hell, I'm overwelmed at the trust honda-tech members have by sending $.

Essentially, I am encouraging those who have thought about donating but just haven't 'gotten around to it yet', to do so pretty soon as we have only a month to go. Also for those who are donating headers to test, it is getting close to shipping time, so please keep this in mind. As a note, the $700 only covers the dyno time, so you will have to handle the shipping expenses.

I think that's it. Thanks all for your help and look forward to Dec 15th

Have you tried contacting magazines or the companies whose headers you'll be testing?

Yes, we have a contact at Peterson Publishing (Super Street) also 2 companies have been talking with us about this, and SMS is even donating some of their time and product.

Well, I'm glad you're getting some support. Sorry you're evidently going to be out of pocket for some of it.
Yea, we are still a little short, but there are some awesome people out there, like yourself, who are giving even $5 and $10 donations which is helping a lot.

Current information is being posted on the dyno's wesite here http://www.automotiveperformanceengineering.com/# in case anyone is interested.

I'm looking forward to seeing the SMS header (which Roger Foo ran) vs. a Hytech.

Brian, you didn't have to send another $50. That makes you the largest contributor by far. Although it is greatly appreciated, $100 this time of the year is significant pocket change in my humble opinion. So thanks for the help and as always looking forward to the test!

Everyone needs to send Brian @ Fastbrakes kudos for all his help.

I dunno. It kinda seems to me that the dyno time shouldn't be that expensive. Maybe it different on the east coast or something.
