Default How about DIY?

Anyone got any experiance or opinions about DIY grills for a 5th gen Accord? I have a 96 and I want to rid my self of the chrome strip. At the same time I would like to have the "Accord" logo mounted inside I just want to see what some people have done and info on how they did it. Thanks

here's my DIY type r style grill. basically what i did was take the grill apart, strip the chrome stuff off the plastic trim. i used a dremel to sand the chrome and it actually got it thin enough where i could peel/chip it all off.
then i used a dremel to cut out the middle bar and cut out the shell. be sure not to go too deep because you will cut through the mouting clips. just deep enough to cut the bar and stuff out. mine kinda has a little U shaped part where i cut out the honda emblem.
then i primered the black part (i just did the front)
then sanded everything really good with some 40 grit, then 80 grit, then 120 grit. made sure everything was smooth. then i primered it. sanded it a little bit again with the 120 grit. primered again, then sanded some more with the 120 grit. then put another layer of primer.
then i used the duplicolor bordeaux red paint from advance auto parts that matches my paint code to paint it, then followed the instructions on that. then lastly i put the clear coat on. i can take some close up pics of it if you want. its a decent job considering i only spent like $8 on it. but my damn dremel burned out while i was cutting so i had about one inch left of cutting i had to finish with tin snips.
i plan on going back as soon as i get paid and sanding it down again but this time smoothing it out with some 400-600 grit paper. you could still see some sanding marks when i finished with the 120 grit. PM me with anymore questions.

I know I have heard of a DIY:

Take the front grill piece off. Seperate the 2 pieces (chrome surrounding and insert) now you can either paint the chrome either black or body match or I have heard of a DIY where you actually cut out the inserts and the "H" in the middle and bondo out or even out the missing piece and insert, paint and re-install. I think cb7tuner.com has some pics but eh well.
