Default Unsealing sunroof

I recently acquired a 1989 Integra and the previous owner explained to me that the sunroof had started to leak a few months prior and so he took some sort of sealant and completely covered the rubber surround around the glass (weatherstripping?) and well, that sure fixed the leak problem, but unfortunately, it also won't let the sunroof open, period. He said he's not sure what he used exactly, but said it could have been epoxy, and well, I know that the only way to get rid of epoxy is with paint thinner and that's not good because it will take the paint with it. Any opinions as to what to do? I'm afraid of peeling it and finding out the hard way of what that stuff really is.
