Can i put SOHC VTEC head on my D15?
yeah you can ppl do it al lthe time.
if you're putting it in that 95 dx hatch, itll be a pretty peppy setup,
a very noticeable change.
basically you'll gain around 20-30horses,
and bumped up compression.
I'm thinking about doing the same,
but throwing on a thinner headgasket for even higher compression, then a nicely aggressive cam(which will love the higher compression).
all that plus boltons in a light hatch will be a fun fun car!
might not be killin supras,
but hard to beat for the money

ok, sounds good, i think im gonna try it, what all will i need in order to make it work properly? a vtec head, vtec solenoid, obd1 p28 ecu, make wires for vtec? of course, new head gasket, and other gaskets, and belts all the normal stuff. but what do i exactly need? or is there a site that has full explaination?

waddup guys i got a 94 civic dx coupe with a dx bottom end with a sohc intake manifold and del sol sohc vtec tranny tha motor has 175k on it and that **** pull lovely but i wanna know if i put sohc vtec head of it and with tha p28 ecu will tha car run more strong?

Umm...or not.
Don't say **** you don't know, it's the same on DOHC too
ONLY the intake has vtec, I think some body hasn't done their research
and to "jerbear" or whatever
vtec is on the intake side only on all sohc and dohc vtec motors. with some exceptions, all vtec-e motors, D15z1 and D16y7 (vx\hx) only have it on exhaust. they run 12 valves (8 intake and 4 exhaust) till around 3,000 rpm (when vtec engages) when they run on all 16 valves.
and on I-vtec and the 3-stage vtec D15B. THey combine the 2 together. So technically they have vtec on both.but only when real vtec kicks in and they run on the INTAKE vtec lobes will there be much of a power gain. they 12 valve (exhaust vtec) is for emissions bs
And i'm tired and don't feel like typing everything to explain this....
go to howstuffworks.com I think they have vtec on it....
this explains 3 stage vtec on the D15B
http://asia.vtec.net/article/d15b/
and I don't feel like searching for a link about i vtec but it's the same except the intake and exhaust have seperate cams...basically
and boom how vtec works

trust me dude you wouldn't notice much of an improvement. the only little bit you would notice would be from the comp. jump due to small combustion chambers.but you could do the same by milling the head or a thinner head gasket.
Otherwise all you getting is a 12 valves motor until 3,000ish rpm and you gotta 16.
I would definately stick with whatever you got (at least it's 16 valves all the time), unless it's a CX. Or if you're really interested in Vtec-e and the roller rockers in the head.
OR go with a z6 or y8 or d15B head
