Default Getting Turbo, Few questions

Hey guys, so, here i am, saving my money, and almost to the $1400 mark, where i will purchase a greddy kit for my baby..
Now, the one problem i am running into..
I will not have enough money for the intercooler for prob.. i dunno, a good month at least, would i be safe in putting the kit on, and keeping the boost low? So i can still rip around, noted, rip around less, but do it without risk of Jackin my engine? That way when i have the money for the intercooler, the turbo will be done, and all i will have to do is bolt up the intercooler..

well, thats my thought, and reasoning of it all, lemme know what you guys think! thanks alot

I'd wait untill I had the complete kit. Kinda do it right the first time kinda thing. But that's just me.

Yeah I'd wait too, but your not going to damage anything if you just bolt it on and go. They sell the kit that way so it's not going to damage your engine. (if used properly)
You will get more performance and a happier car once you add the intercooler.

I would run it as long as you keep the settings low. They make the kit non intercooledd so I am pretty sure it can be run. There is no doing it right the first time about it unless you strap that thing on and try to run 12 psi.

There are a lot of people on here that have had no IC with their turbo kit for a while but just check the classifieds and see if you can bag a kit with and IC for your price.

Dude you can get a full used rev hard or drag kit for the money you got people don't turn down cash, when i got my first turbo kit i traded a bunch of stock parts and 300 bucks for it, and i got EVERYTHING! down to turbo timer boost controller and down to the last stupid bolt and bracket. just keep watch on the classifieds when your ment to have something it falls in your lap

Dont know if you've already done this, but make sure you are up to date on your maintenance crap before you decide to boost. Make sure you do a compression test and check for any leakage of fluids etc...

Turbo will only stress ur engine more and if there is anything wrong in your engine you have a higher chance it going wrong with any force induction.

$1400 not bad... You might find a good deal on some used greddy kits in the classifieds or if you are daring enough, might even piece together one for that price and still get the intercooler... But each is their own...

You will be fine without an intercooler. I had the GReddy kit on my Y8 for about four months without a FMIC. My engine was daily driven to work in 100-degree August heat, and it was fine. I just tried not to boost too much. You'll notice SEVERE lag and absolutely no power. It felt slower than if I was all-motor and running the A/C. Night time was my best friend during this period, I'll tell you that much. But the commute home from work at 5 p.m. when the weather was hottest was horrid; just trying to keep up with traffic was a chore.

When I had my GReddy kit, I never intended on getting an IC or BOV. I was gonna leave it at the stock PSI setting, 5.

I was going for a sleeper look and not too much power though. I'm no longer HP at mind, just wanted to have a lil' fun. I was upgrading to a Integra radiator though. Yeah, I serves as a completely different function, but I got a deal on it to keep my motor cooler.

So what should i check other than a compression test? would a new water pump be a good idea?

Also, thanks for the reply's folks... any one else have anything to add?

It's safe to run around 5 psi without a FMIC just make sure you have AT LEAST a fmu on there if not the afc hack since you're low on cash. I ran 5.5 psi with my apexi kit on my 00 ex for about 2 months before i got a fmic, afc hack and upped the boost.

The e-Manage that comes with the kit will be perfectly fine for your needs. My local tuner shop recommends it as a good budget fuel setup.
