WTF! Tranny housing won't go back together...
Man, I just spent the last hour trying to get my tranny housing back together. The tranny housing will lower until it is about 1/2 of an inch all the way around and won't go down any farther. All the shift forks are lined up. The pins in the housings aren't touching yet so I know it isn't them causing it to not go together. What the heck is going on? I can't figure it out.
The clip on the top of the mainshaft is aligned properly too.

A gear placed in upside down will also create this mess.... what ever you, don't force it!
you have already took into consideration the obvious reasons, shifter forks have to be aligned as well as the mainshaft spacer..are you getting caught on the mainshaft snap ring?

No, the snap ring isn't even touching the shaft yet. None of the gears could be in upside down, I just pulled the diff out and put it back in. I didn't do anything to the countershaft or mainshaft gears besides lift them up to get to the diff.

What about the spacer on the top of the main shaft? The one with the little tab on it that goes into the groove? Also....you need to lube that thing up like a champ. I have been fighting broken bearings and crap with my trans and have run into this problem too. I have to put like a half quart of oil all over everything.
That is funnny

Okay, I go the housings back together finally, one of the shifter forks wasn't perfectly aligned.
Now the c clip on the countershaft is acting like a s.o.b. and won't snap into place.

Good idea, I am gonna try it. I have the c clip spread open and the tranny case tightened down, it's so close to snapping in...

Use the old "bounce" method. Turn the trans upside down and GENTLY tap it on a board. The main shaft will seat properly and you will hear the snap ring click into place.

An easier method to get the snap ring into place is to get the snap ring to the halfway point and insert a flathead screwdriver into the bearing groove and lift up on it..
Now you know why my name is BreakStuff!
