Hit a wall...(warning, a lot of pics)
Hit a wall at Sears Point. Not lookin good, but not looking really bad either. I also have a video coming, a guy in an NSX two cars back caught it all on tape.
this would be the bumper

whole rear right
rear fender

point of impact

there's now a bigger gap between my tail lights and the body

again, you can see the gap

Most of the lines in the car are still good, just the rear right tail light is not fitting quite right. Obviously my bumper is gone and i need a new reinforcement bar. the black mounting bracket right below the headlights needs to be replaced as well. The lower rear right end needs to be "pulled" out because it was smushed in slightly upon impact, hence the little ripples in the rear right fender. Besides that, everything is in tact and in proper working order. I guess i can start a new trend now, bumperless R's instead of wingless
.
Does anybody have a rear bumper for sale? Anyone know any good body shops in Nor Cal?
I have been suggested to Mike's Autobody in Concord by a friend already.
Thanks

Damn, man....how did this happen?? I need details...where on the track? I was out at Sears on Sat. for awhile...saw two or three R's out there. I hope you get everything fixed...
Sorry to see that.
I get all gung-ho about getting out to the track and then I see this stuff (or imagine it in my head) and I get a little nervous about banging up my R....

Well, if you do not know, Sears point is currently under construction. I was there about a month earlier and the wall I hit wasn't there before!
But anyhow, there is a series of S turns going into what is now turn 9, it's a hard 90 degree right turn. I hit the burm on the inner part of the first S turn, it's broken at the middle end of the burm, and I believe my front left wheel dropped off int he break and pulled my car to the right. (The next part of the S turn sweeps to the right). I immediately counter steered to the right and punched the gas a little, hoping to correct it. I appaerantly OVER corrected it and started to spin to the right, making my rear end go to the left. At that point I put both feet in, started sliding sideways at about... 30-50 mph, and then I met the wall with the right rear end. Could have been MUCH worse, had I hit the front or side of my car. Maybe I will scan a of theh track and a car diagram of what happened to make sense of this madness.

minor damage though for the most part. The fender you might be able to get by with a paintless dent removal.
As for the rear end, put it up on a frame jig. The frames on these cars bend really easily, but fortunately it's also very easy to get them right back into spec.
Warren (who blew up his recently rebuilt motor 3 weekends ago at the Glen... Can you say money shift? I knew you could.)

Ouch! Dat hurts. I was rear ended a few weeks ago at a stop sign and I've got the same gap by the right tail light. CarStar replaced my bumper for me last weekend but didn't fix the gap. I'm going to talk to them tomorrow and see what's up.
At least you hit it using the R to its best.
As anyone who has gone road racing, its not the safest place for a car.
Its better than some drunk or rice driver hitting you or stealing it.
think positive man!

Hey, that metal bar inside the bumper where your license plate is hanging now, we don't have that in Euro ITRs!!!
That's why Euro ITRs are lighter!!

Ouch...I was able to ride as a passenger in the Group 3 on Saturday...and we were getting fairly close to that burm...ouch, I'm glad that we didn't do that, at least it looks fixable. I was with Chris, and Bob#497 on Saturday, 2 yellow itr's and mine was the black itr with Mugen rims. The other yellow itr that was running out there broke something, he called me last night, as his car is still sitting out at Sears Point.

Crashing always sucks but it could have been much worse, considering where you crashed.
Lucky you didn't go on the lid there. Claissic crash at SPIR. Most people back into the hillside instead of the new wall. Go up on the wheels roll down on the roof. You lucky the wall was there!
I'm assuming you weren't hurt?

if the drawing is accurate, your line was off. so when you tried you get back on line you put quite a bit of steering input and as the tail stepped out you might've tried to counter steer but you forgot to gas it so it rotated before u can catch it.
searspoint it an awesome technical track but not ideal for beginners. buttonwillow and tunderhill are both excellent. with BW being perfect because it is very hard to damage your car there. TH has ditches if you're off track.

I'm willing to bet that this is the corner that you hit, turn #9.
One of the most dramatic changes has taken place behind Turn 9 where the hillside is being excavated to make room for terrace seating and expanded run-off in Turns 7-9.
I beleive I was driving the right light, the line I have used in the past. That's where I usually make up a lot of ground on the higher HP cars, cause I am able to get up to about 90mp+- through the S turns. That time, I think I just rode the burm a little too long.
We'll see, hopefully I get the video soon
