Default bad fuel economy? 19 mpg for 4cyl accord

I've been getting bad mileage on my 6th gen accord. My mods include a removed resonator, but I don't think that'll affect the mileage that much. I've even reset the ECU, but to no effect. Don't think its a cat or anything...could be a dirty fuel injector?

i've got bosch platinum +4 spark plugs...could that make it run rich? or the fact that i'm running w/o resonator?

i doubt its your resonator... try changing the air filter if you are unsure of the condition.. if you have high mileage could be your o2 sensor, or even a clogged catalytic,,, you can always perform test's to give you a definate answer on those.

However, it could just be your driving habits

Do you always just step on it no matter where you are or do you gradually lower your foot to the pedal, brake hard?? take corners fast?? Constantly in stop and go traffic?? maybe you drive fine though....

I dont think it could be the cat, as they age they restrict the airflow more but I do not think that could be grounds for 19mpg.....especially on an accord

On the topic of spark plugs, I'd opt for good ol' NGK copper plugs. Check your plugs to see if it's white or black with soot. Then check your exhaust piping including your headers to see if you have an exhaust leak somewhere. And also check your IAT sensor.

And if in doubt, send your oil for analysis: http://www.blackstone-labs.com.

Fill up your car, reset the trip odometer. Drive it until the tank is low, fill it up again, divide the miles driven by the gallons it took to refill your tank.

But yes, you should be getting much better mileage, even if you have an automatic. My '99 lx 5-speed gets ~ 26 / 33mpg, with 87 octane gas.

I do that. It's a slushbox.

3 gallons are the reserve, the light comes on at 14 gallons used, 17 gallon total tank capacity. You better recheck your gas mileage calculations.

I'm telling you, I see how much gas I use when I fill it up. I divide the trip odometer by the amount of gas I put in. It's 18 mpg.

I just put in my OEM plugs. It feels different---less pull throught the rpm range...It could be one of two things: a placebo effect or my OEM plugs have more miles on them. Some boys on the miata forum dyno-tested the +4 against the Bosch Spitfire and saw no difference. After they put in the NGK Coppers, a 3 hp gain.

Do you run your A/C alot? I know my mileage stinks when i run it....i'm not sure of the condition of my compressor bearings....lots of parasitic drag.
