Default Best place for a clutch/flywheel install for my itr?

I'm going to need a good place to do the install for me in SOCAL. Anyone know where I can take my ITR and know they will do a good job on the exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel install? How much should a good install cost?

any reason for not trying it yourself?

honestly, it might take some time for inexperienced people, but in my opinion.. it's not something so tough to waste the amount of money shops charge to take out a tranny.

but if you dont have the tools, or have any friends who do.. then i guess a shop is your only (and last option)

Clutch/Flywheel jobs in so cal run about $300-400 from what i have heard. If you are comfortable paying that, then have someone do it for you. If not, you will learn alot from doing it yourself.

I just dont have the tools to do this job myself. Is $300 the price i should be looking for?

I think booktime for that would be about 4-5 hours(should only take an hour or so)....anything over 300 is too much for someone to pay IMO

use about 100 bucks and you will have more than enough tools to do it yourself

Only $99 at http://www.harborfreight.com and has everything you will need and then some.

I just picked up my set and have been very pleased so far for the price.

There is nothing really hard about it.

1. Break the axle nuts with a big ace breaker bar, jack the car up, pry and tug the axels out.
2. Unhook every wire, sensor, and hose contected to the tranny.
3. Unhook starter and shift linkage.
4. Jack up the engine slightly to relieve tension and undo the tranny mount.
5. Drop the engine/tranny slightly and unbolt the tranny.
6. Install new clutch and flywheel.
7. Bench press the tranny back in place (yeah its hard on the muscles but the fasest way in the end IMO)
8. Hook everything back up.

I dropped my first Honda tranny by myself using a basic Craftman set. My friends left me so I had to drop the tranny on a big bag of trash . Trust me you can do it, go for it and use that saved money to treat yourself afterwards.

im not a competent mechanic and would not trust myself to do a job like this. I would rather pay someone I know would do the job right the first time, and is willing to back up the work. So I shouldnt pay more then $300?

if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you better not.

You get a piece of dirt between he flywheel and crank, remove dowel pins for easier installation, mis torque a bolt, etc etc, then you have bigger problems.

You should be able to find a HT member with experience to do for you also

Myself would do this for about 125

yea ive done several clutches for people for 150...... my first time i did it i was pretty sceptical about doing it myself but i had a manual and was willing to try.... first time took me about 4.5 hours but now i can do it in about 2 hours. it was ALOT easier than i first expected but if you dont have the tools then that is another story

I used a regular ole Haynes manual the first time, it has good REAL pics, but the Helms would probably be better.

Go to a Lee Miles or well know tranny shop so that they might be able to give you a warranty on the labor.

I would let someone do it for you the first time but be sure to watch so next time you will have some insight on what to do

Check sig, he used to do work for inlinefour.com then decided to go on his own. He works out of his garage but don't let that fool you, his work is awesome. Located in Anaheim.

How do you think dennis got his tranny up?
