Spring cleaning: Clay bar & Windshield?
2 questions:
1) Going to use the clay bar tonight, question is, is that OK go over the almighty Type R yO sticker? Dont wanna lose any HP by damaging the sticker.
2) How do you clean your windsheild? (outside) I have all these little dots on the windshield which I couldn't get rig of by washing. (I have a picture to show, will post tonight) Based on search, I've seen using steel wool with acid water spot remover, any other suggestion? Wouldn't steel wool leave scratches on the windsheild?
TIA. =D

Clay bar should be fine over the stickers. As for the winshield, a lot of people have those dots. I think they're a bunch of tiny rock chips, can't get rid of them I don't think.

Clay Bar should be fine on the decals, just don't press too hard. Also, you can use the claybar on the windshield, again, don't use too much pressure. I dunno about the steel wool and acid spot remover, I just give it a run over w/ the claybar and dry w/ some newspaper (no streaks). Good luck

The key to the claybar is to keep it lubricated and let it just glide over and pick junk up, not pressed and scrubbed with. It will be safe on the stickers.
The windshield, use windex and a razor blade. If you need more than just windex, you can try something like Afta which is an adhesive remover, but I'd only use that in small applications.
Best, of luck.

Zaino claybars suck.
The mothers is better and easier to get.
There are better products as well, but you'll have to order them.
RJ - not enthralled with Zaino and going to use meguire's next time.

Clay Magic is another good clay bar package, and its only $10 at auto parts stores.
They do make window polishing kits that will make your window look like new, but i have only seen them available online. http://www.autopia.org has alot of info available about them.

Clay Magic works great, and i used to detail cars fulltime for 5 years plus. Remember when you clay bar your car dip the bar alot in the soap water bro. And if you have a buffer,do the windshield with that @ high speed.

The "old" Meguires was awesome, then there was a batch that had to be recalled because it wouldn't lift and just stuck a crappy haze all over (mostly sold in Wall-Mart afik). The Mothers is good but imho not quite as good as the old Meguires. I never tired Zaino or whatever it's called. I did pick up a Pro pack of Mother's 4 in a pack for $6.00 last season, Did the job fine.

Annoying dots/scratches

Just got the Zaino clear-view (don't know if it works but decided to give it a shot), WIP

Btw, first time use clay bar, I picked Mothers, easy to use, but I have no other experience to compare to! :D No sure about Zaino clay bar, but it's cost $10 more.

You know, my insurance replaced my windshield for free once just because it was old and pitted. Do you have full glass coverage? Might be worth a call...

?? for normal wear? After all, it's a 3 years old car. What's the reasoning for them to insure that?

I always use the finest grade steel wool and a good glass cleaner.
I have PIAA wiper blades, so I leave it, but before I did, I would wax it....

mothers
anticipate spending a good 4 hrs doing it at least.. .but sooo worth it.. surface becomes smooooth like glass
keep the claybar well lubricated, and if you drop it, THROW IT OUT! idea: break it up into 3 just in case and work with the smaller pieces
