In the morning i went to take a smog test, I failed in HC at 15 mph. The reading came out to be 118 where the max in California is 88. I know states that have there's at 202. I then warmed up the car and tried it again half an hour later. It still failed this time it was worst, it failed the NOX reading too. I think it's because he ran it at a higher rpm then the first test. Well anyways. Do you guys have any idea what it can be? the car is in great condition still running strong with 135k miles. I just purchased it two days ago and i need to register. But i can't do that without passing smog. Any ideas? i'm getting a dynostic tomorrow for about $100. hopefully that'll tell me everything wrong with it. I hope it's just a cat or a o2 sensor. Please post asap before i go waste another 50 dollars doing the damn test again.

Ill tell you what I did. I bought a bottle of RXP pored it in a full tank, drove on the highway for 45-60min and drove it in and it passed. I would suggest RXP not GTP. With RXP you can take the test with the additive in the tank, with GTP you have to run the entire tank out. Good luck.

 

I thought the law was that the seller had to smog the car before transferring the title in CA? You should go back to your seller to see what's up. Otherwise, those smog-pass guarantee additives can be another option.

 

change that oil, and do a tune up. If that's lready been tried then....
I' ve heard you can let the car get uber hot (disconect the fan) the ecu
will lean out the car. Dont let it fully overheat!
But this is just something I heard from a guy when I lived in PA.
I can't back that up with any real proof.
But I know the oil and tune up can help alot, at least for PA emissions

 

try replacing the o2 and the cat.
