Failed Smog need help asap
I failed smog today in my 95 LS, stock everything. I am suspecting it is the CAT but i dont know. I ran some fuel injection cleaner before the smog test. What do you guys think? Here are the numbers:
15mph: CO2=14.06, O2=0.34, HC: max=90, meas=113, CO: max=0.54, meas=0.68, NO: max=711, meas=1737
25mph: CO2= 14.41, O2=0.09, HC: max=56, meas=70, CO: max=0.53, meas=0.36, NO: max=754, meas=838

you may also need to replace your o2 sensors, when your hydrocarbon readout is that high it is running way rich. If you can get a free re-test I would take them out, clean them off with a wire brush, re-install, and go again. If you are still high you will have to replace them. a new cat and 02 sensors is going to set you back a few hundred but your car will run a lot better

I don't mind paying the few hundred. The way I see it is, if I take care of it now I won't have to deal with it later, and I just want to pass already.

High HC is a rich running enging. High NOx is a lean running engine. Can't have both at once, so it sounds like a failing cat.
Try running a bottle of ISO Heet in the tank during the test. It burns cleaner and cooler, reducing both counts.

As long as you passed visually along with no leaks, overheating, check engine light, gas cap bullshit, blah blah and you do what I just said you'll pass for sure! Goodluck

Im not saying the C2P stuff works, many disagree, but I feel hey, what do you have to lose? It definately cant hurt. But yea with a brand new catalytic converter you'll pass with flying colors. It will block almost evrything, lol watch you'll see.

Re: Failed Smog need help asap
lmao
Before you replace anything! Was the fuel injector cleaner still in the tank when you got tested or did you run it through till you were empty and then fill up before your test. If the cleaner was in there while you were getting tested it is still cleaning out the combustion chambers which is going to raise your HC and other emissions. Also, before spending major $$ on stuff like cats and O2s, be sure you don't just need a basic tune up.
