Good subwoofers?
I've got 2 JL Audio 10" W3V2's, but I'm not satifsfied with them. It doesn't hit clean and hard. The bass just seems off and sometimes sounds really loose. I don't know if I'm describing it right, but that's the best I can do. Are my subs blown or is it just how the W3V2's sound? I don't think they're are blown because I haven't pushed it very hard. Then again, I bought these subs used, so who knows. I have a JL Audio 500/1 amp powering them so it's not a power issue either. Are there any other subs which you guys recommend? Not very familiar with non-JL Audio subs. Thanks.

Ok, that's good to know. I don't know jack when it comes to audio, so what should I do? Here's a picture of my setup. Let me know if you see anything wrong with it.
Yes, it's loose on the low bass. Sometimes the song is unbearable. What do you think could be the problem with the box? Is it the size? Shape? Also how do I determine exactly what's tuned incorrectly?

If the cone looks liek it looses lots of control, and you get lots of cone movement, but not much sound....you need a new box - it's tuned too high.
Check around at your local shops for box prices - a couple of hundred for a nicely built custom box wouldn't be out of the question for a high end shop.

I had the 10w3s and the 10w3v2 and had the exact same problem. Was running mine in a 2 cubed sealed box that I had built for me. Had a 250x2 Infinity Beta amp powering these guys and they NEVER sounded right exactly how you explained it. I have since then ditched JL and moved on.

IMO the enclosure may be too big for those subs...You really dont need a Huge box to amplify those subs... It's prolly just the way im looking at the picture and i may be wrong, but if the enclosure is too big, you will lose a lot of bang...
You should face the subs to the rear of the trunk. At least try it. But I', 99% sure you will be amazed at the difference.
Or, you can buy my 2 12w6v2's and my 1000/1.

What type of subs did you move on to? Did it solve the problem?

The box is actually not as big as you may think. I think it's just the pictures. I'll measure it tonight.

Just because they are v2's doesn't change the voice coils, they are "version 2" an upgrade from the original, you should not be having bass problems with that set up, something is definetaly wrong. I would guess it is the box.
