I'd stay away from the sony, the power is way over-rated. Personally I like the Phoenix Gold amps. Saving up for one now

They are correct in saying Sony is junk. You can get a pretty decent amp for 300 bucks. Hmm I would recommend getting a JL amp for subs if you can find one in your price range. Also another good alternative is a fosgate even though they do run hot and you can always go with alpine. Sony amps are horrible and I know for a fact that some off brand amps like tornado perform better. Hmm if it’s only for the sub get a decent mono amp and I am sure you will be happy with it.

I have a reason for disliking Sony most of the Sony stuff I have had has died prematurely on me plus the sound like crap compared to the other brands out there.

I have had several Sony products if that matters and they have all died prematurely. They also don't put out near the power they claim and like I said sound like crap compared to the other brands.

do the Alpine amps tend to run hot?

i had a kicker amp along time ago, and it always shut off cuz it would get to hot.. annoyed the hell out of me.

thats one thing i dont want with my next purchase, an amp that always shuts off.
