Default starter problems

wondering if any of you guys would have knowledge beyond what I have tried....I am on my 3rd starter, 2nd battery....

1. we've checked all the connections and they all seem good

2. I've had the "brass" replaced by a technician as well. They say this most likely is the culprit of most starter problems..as it is a wear item.

3. We've checked voltage from battery and that came out well.

4. Before steps 1 through 3..I have even slighly banged the starter to see if something was loose...definitely not the case.

Here are the symptoms and problems:

Everytime you put the key in and turn it, it will definitely "CLICK" every single time you turn it..but whether the ENGINE TURNS OR NOT is variable...with about 20% success rate...rarely will it turn on the first click..usually it takes rapid turning of the key and maybe 10-20 clicks before it turns...sometimes it does it on the first... I have no idea where to go from where other than taking the starter apart.

Do you guys have any ideas on the next thing I could possibly do?

typically the clicking noise is the solenoid popping the little gear out to get it on the flywheel...the problem is, the starter motor itself isn't turning...better off replacing the whole starter. You say you're on your 3rd one... 3rd one ever? or 3rd starter you've tried to no avail?

Damn, this happened to me before and I can't remember what I did to remedy this problem. This may sound stupid, but make sure all of your "ground" connections are tight.

I had a loose ground on my thermostat housing and I was having all kinds of starting problems and dying batteries etc. Even went through the hassel of changing the starter, alt. and battery when in the end it was that stupid *** ground.

this is your 3rd brand new starter thats giving your problems? After you replaced it the first time, did it work ok? How many miles are on each starter?

they are all used starters...but I don't know why all 3 would be bad..ya know? what's the chance of that? They've all lasted a short amount of time..a few months at most I would say. Thanks.
