Default where the hell is my speedo cable? already searched.

Alright, i have an 89 crx with a 99 EX engine in it SOHC VTEC. My speedo on my cluster wasnt working, so i thought it may had to be plugged back in or something. So i take the guage cluster off, and WHAT, no cable.. so im searching around in that area, and i see a thick black cable, it has that foam stuff around it, and it seems to be cut on the end. I grab it, and i pulled it forward. the cable has this sticky stuff all over it. The cable is a black cable, under the rubber black piece is some wire, sticky stuff, and like a plastic clear inside? Is this my speedo cable? If it is, how do i install it back into my guage cluster? I have the piece on the back of the cluster that goes onto the cluster, the little metal piece that almost looks like a ghetto smoking device, are there any other pieces i need? How do i hook it back up if this is the correct wire? Thanks

Take a pic and post it. The speedo cable clips on to the back of your cluster. You can't miss it.

hhmm ok well to say it in a nut shell it's the cable that attaches to your Gague cluster that helps determine your speed? I don't know exaclty what is does but thats what i think it does, it's found near your air intake manafold on top of your engine. I think it looks like the cable clutch cable but it's shorter and a bit smaller.

that sounds like that cable to me. if it was connected to the cluster in the first place you may want to check the VSS on the tranny...that cable is connected to the tranny on the distributor side straight down and on top of the tranny about 8 inches from the firewall.

if both ends are plugged in and it still doesn't work then the cable is snapped inside. you'll have to replace the whole cable. its an easy fix and its not hard at all... i've done about 4 or 5 you just have to follow the cable and get your hands scratched up. the cable is about 4ft. long or so....

that sticky stuff on the cable is grease to allow the medal thing in there to spin without melting the cable...

does that make any sense? lol

good luck

It is actually hidden underneath your IM and clips into your tranny at the VSS.

no, you all arent understanding my question. I took my guage cluster off, there is NO cable/metal piece going to the back of the cluster. SO....

edit - alright, so now here is my question, the black wire that is near my cluster, has no male metal piece on it, its just a black wire that looks cut off, is it un-salvagable, as in, i cant strip it and fix it, or do i need a new one? and what kind do i need?

if the cable that is supposed to connect to your cluster is destroyed...cut off...what ever. just buy a new/used speedo cable from honda or a junk yard.

the cable on the cluster side looks kinda like a cable with a large open end a piece of grooved wire sticking out and a clip on the end to attach to the cluster...if you don't have that buy a new/used cable. cheap from the junk yard.

its easy to install takes me about 5 minutes... should take someone at max 45 minutes to figure out and install.

did you check the tranny to see if the other end of the cable is even there? if so what the hell happend to the cluster end? did you just buy this car? did it never work and now you want to know why?

you'll need it for your year make and model.

call the scrap yards in your area... there has to be a few civics/crxs around. if you really can't find one i have a great Honda/Acura scrap yard in my area and im sure i can find here....

I'll get you a price if you need it.

i would think your speedo is busted. best way to find out is to purchase or barrow another cluster and see if the new cluster does the same thing.
