AWD EF wagon the same as EF EX Sedan Hubs??
I was at the junkyard the other day and saw an AWD EF wagon sitting in the corner of the yard. I proceeded to strip the car of the MPFI harness, the resistor box, etc...and I noticed....These brakes were quite big!
I was wondering, are the AWD EF wagons equipped with the same big brake/knuckle combo as the EX EF sedans?
And are the knuckles the same? I was worried about buying these knuckles/brakes off the wagon and put them on my Hatch...only to find out the suspension geometry would be off. That would suck big time....after taking all that **** off.

Do a search and find the casting numbers for the EX knuckles (they are here somewhere). Then go back and see what casting numbers are on the wagon.
As far as the hubs go, the wagon & Si seem to be the same part# (just the hub), but not the same as the EX.
It would be interesting as another option. Good luck in your search!

Thanks guys!
Milk & 1- I see that the EX knuckle has the stamp "LH3-A" on it. I will be going to the junkyard tomorrow and I'll let you guys know if the AWD wagon is another option for us EF dudes to get the 10" brakes. Hopfully it is!

Thats weird how the numbers are the same for the Wagon and SI but not EX...I would think the SI and EX used the same exact Knuckle since both have the 10" brakes and are identical as far as knuckle length...

I've been under my car all damn week taking different knuckle / brake combos in and out. I've talked to a lot of people and done a bit of research myself.
From what I have found out. . .
--All 4g Civics and Crx's have the same knuckles except for the HF and EX. (HF has a smaller axle, and the EX has the larger rotor. The Si does not have the larger rotor.)
--The 90-91 Crx Si has a different caliper setup than the other Si's. (I'm not sure about the Si HB)

Ok guys! Sorry for the wait....
but yah....the verdict of this whole mystery is: AWD Wagon and EX DO NOT have the same knuckles OR brakes. nihkon is right about the knuckle/Brake combos too...There were a couple of different EFs at the junkyard (Hatches, 4 doors, and wagons) and I took a couple of pix. The brakes and knuckles looked all the same from DX, AWD Wagon, LX, it didnt really matter....they were all the same. So EX's are exclusive to the larger discs and calipers...
Check out the pix...
Here is the wagon I was curious about...

And it was for sure an AWD..

Welp, here are the brakes of that particular wagon.

Compare that caliper and rotor to this Civic DX hatch

See how the calipers are the same? I measured the rotors too and they were the same....but heres the kicker...
This is a picture of a DX Sedan caliper/knuckle combo....

See the caliper? It doesnt have the "C" Bracket all the other calipers do (Wagon and hatch)....weird eh? But it does have the same diameter rotor and about the same size pad.
Also, another thing that proves that the AWD wagon has the same knuckle/caliper combo as DX's, LX's etc...is the casting designation on the knuckle itself..

RH3-H is what is on the Wagon knuckle, which is the same thing on the Hatch knuckle. EX's denote LH3-A. (But i really think the first letter tells you what side the knuckle goes on, Left or Right)
So moral of the story....AWD Wagons are not a source for bigger brakes..

yup yup....yet another witness that AWD wagons are not a source for the bigger brakes....sucks so bad. But I have found an EX at another junkyard. How much do you think is a good price for the whole front brake/knuckle setup guys?

Maybe they just assumed there was no resale value for it, but you have a valid point. Hell, even the paint looks good for sitting out in a yard.

Hey no problemo...more power for the EF guys out here. Now that I have a digi cam and some time, I can finally get some info out on what ive been doing to my EF's.
Ne way, that day I went out to the junk yard, I happend to get a lip for my 88 Civic sedan and an OEM arm. I should have pix of the how-to on the lip shortly, stay tuned.

Yah..I was wondering the same thing. I mean this wagon was pretty mint. (I was actually thinking of buying the whole car to add to my EF collection...but no title
) The wheels on this thing were pretty dope too....and I believe they only wanted 7 bux fer each wheel. White 14" OEM Honda steelies would look pretty decent on a Hatch or 4 door.

I know they are kind of on the expensive side, but at H-Auto in Westminster, they sell the EX knucles (when they have them in stock) for $100 per side. . .just the knuckles. Not sure how much they would charge for the calipers.

Hey man, I need that passenger side "Real Time 4wd" molding!! mine was replaced with a stickerless molding. The exact one in your up-close pic.
If you go back to the yard see what they want for it and I'll give ya a bit more for your efforts (if it's not a stupid price to start with, which I doubt at a u-pull-it place)
thanks! and let me know

I paid $160bux for EX knuckles w/2 calipers and 1 rotor (couldn't find the other one). The guy at the yard pulled them while I helped. This is in central NC.
