For those of you who run a test pipe...does your car "stink" like gas/exhaust fumes while idling?

Mine smells very strong...and Im not sure if its because of the test pipe utself, an exhaust leak..or maybe running way too rich at idle (due to the cams).

I think it could be all three.. all contributing to the "smell".

I smell the fumes when I park and get out of the car, but not when I am in the car.

Blah...mine kills me!!!

It used to be so bad that my eyes got sore while at stop lights! And my clothes stink like gas after a 20 minute drive

Ive leaned it out alot at idle and it has helped some...but still stinks horribly.
Ill have to check for leaks...maybe play with the fuel @ idle some more..and if all else fails..Ill have to get a cat.

It shouldn't stink up inside your car, if so, your probably running to rich. Because there is less filtering, yes you will smell the gas more, however if it is coming in the cabin, that sounds more like a exhaust leak. Try lookin towards the front, usually for the smell to be that pertinent in the cabin, it should be in the front. The exhaust will come through the vents.

By the way, be careful if your car is smelling like gas that much. Carbon monoxide is very dangerous, and will put you unconscious very quickly. Drive with the windows open.

you'll smell it when you get out of the car for sure, if you smell it while your driving inside the cabin you got a leak. That's kinda dangerous, you could pass out, not too mention its pretty unhealthy.

I don't smell anything different unless i get out of the car and go to the trunk while it's still running. My vote goes for exhaust leak.

Is there an open bung on your testpipe? If so, BINGO! Gotta seal it up... I know someone that forgot to seal theirs, not good. You would probably hear that though.... I'd guess you have a combination of a small exhaust leak (check all seals and gaskets, especially around test pipe) and the fact that you have no CAT would account for the rest. Good luck.

mine does smell a bit after long times at idle, kind of sweet smelling I guess.
but not enough for anyone to ever say... "do you run a testpipe?"

not as bad as my old racecar.. a 1980 ford fiesta with a straight tubed exhaust, no cat.. that thing smelled like sulfur and gas fumes, it was heinous!!!

my friend has a GSR with JDM header, test pipe and exhaust, and can never smell anything out of the ordinary. Of course there is carbon on the rear bumper after a few week. Smells just fine though. Actually...I put my face up to the exhaust as the car was idling...hehehe...couldnt smell anything at all.

My old Pontiac...man that thing stank like hell WITH the cat.
