Just picked up a CRX need opions on next step
The crx was my first car when i was 16 paid a **** load of money getting a b16 swap cause i didn't know anything bout cars but i loved it till I ran into a light pole . Currently is has a stock motor with 182k and i just installed KYB/eibach coilover suspensions.
Well I'm thinking of a couple options but in the end i'm want to run high 12s low 13
just say i have 2000 to spend should i purchase a cheap d16z6/y8 and build it to boost
zc and boost?
or just b16a?
Thanks in advance for ur opinions

How reliable do you want it to be? Daily Driver? The B16 would be a great start , but getting into the 12's or low 13's aint happenin w/ 2g's. Boostin a D'series is your best bet money/hp wise. PLus when it blows another can be had cheap.
well I know 2 grand is not gonna get me into the 12's but thats what i have to start with now. I want it to be reliable and kinda quick at the same time. Building a d series will probably cost 1 grand and i can put together a turbo. It should be fairly safe. <---- I'm leaning towards this one.
on the other hand I can get a Zc and boost it but not very high
and on the b16 it would just suck all the money with the mounts and misc parts after the motor.
also for the b16 when i had that in a rex the 3rd and 5th gear would always grind.
My friends ef with b16 grinds too. Is it just the bad luck with tranny or does alot of people have the same problem? I was thinking it was the shiftlinkage

Thats a common prob, not the shift linkage thou. Unless its Ghetto. But usually the syncros are shot. Go for the D-series Turbo set-up then. Buy an extra motor and build it so there isnt any down time. Use an hx/std manifold and weld the adapter plate to it. http://www.homemadeturbo.com

ZC's are kinda hard to just put on a turbo and run more than 9psi. If you get it built, lower compression, internals, etc. you can do nice things with it. a DOHC Zc is the way to go if your doing a ZC swap. Zc's are not a super fast motor automatically but they have alot of potential and teh driver is the main thing about making them fast. I was at the track last Friday and a dohc turbo zc on slicks was doing 12.6's. I personally have not compliants with my zc other than finding what parts fit, some B-series stuff fits some doesnt. im 16 and it's a good motor for me to develop my skills with, ZC=
Hope that helped you out
Hope that helped you out
ZC= Big bucks for little power. there are some parts available, but they are expensive and few and far between from what me and my buddy with a ZC civic has experienced. and add a turbo to that is more custom parts and more money for not so much power still
D series turbo= good amount of money still... d series motors can still be found in ok condition for little money, but thats not going to last long. turbo motors can be built reliable with high boost levels for daily driving and there is alot of support for the motor and the turbos.
B series= b series is more expensive, but the aftermarket support can't be beat. there are a bizzilion companys making parts including turbo kits that can be had for $2000.00 or less for basic models. b series motors can be found all over...like the d series that isn't going to last long either, but still can be found at the local junk yard for a few bucks.
personally i would go b series and then build the bottom end up. ifyou start with a b16 then turbo then blow the bottom end up you can always upgrade to a 1.8 bottom end build that and have even more power at your disposal. the b series can grow and grow. even when you blow that one up you can grab a b20 and have even more power....see where im going with this?
it may be more expensive, but there are a thousand more roads to travel with a b series...the options are almost endless.

I have a buddy with a ZC swap and turbo, nothing spectacular done to the motor, he runs in the 13's. You can check his car out at http://www.teamautonutz.com and click on Ateam. I'd have to say if i had 2g's I would do the ZC swap, but then agian I have a friend on http://www.gforceperformance.com that can put a b18c in my car for less then 2g's becuase he is a car god lol but if your going to do it all yourself and are leaning toward a zc check out http://www.thezcr.com they can help you out.
Another thing to add is that if you want to do the d16z6 your going to have to do some wiring. You'll need to wire about 50 wires or so to hook up the vtec. Just alittle hump to get over but the 135hp or whatever hp that motor has would be nice in the crx to start with.
Damn i'm stuck... But thanks for all the opinions. Its either boost now swap later or swap now and boost later.
Well I guess the smart thing to do would probably swap a b16a then later down the road boost and if its still not enough for me then I probably build it and boost more. ya think.
