Speeding ticket on the way to Deals Gap!!! 92 in a 65 in South Carolina. :( I know it's been talk
Yup,
I was stopped in Anderson County, South Carolina (mile marker #9).
It was early Saturday morning on the way to the gap, and there were few cars on the road. I was late for the Deals Gap meet, and bored so I did a couple of sprints up to ~110 to keep the rpm's from sitting at 4k for too long... (I know, I know, so save the lecture)
Anyway, I never passed any cop car on the side of the road. Never saw his car in the tree line or on an overpass or anything (yes I was looking). Next thing I know, I'm going 80 and a car comes flying up on my *** and lights flashing and I pull over.
He tells me I was going 92 in a 65 zone and takes my license. My insurance is in the trunk, and I tell him I'll get that for him but he says "don't worry about it."
My plates are also expired, but he didn't' notice or care. He asked me what the camera was for (mounted for track use)... I told him we're meeting some friends in NC, for "car stuff." He says he knocked it down from 92 to 90 in a 65, that it will be 6 points on my license, and $300 fine.
Now I want to find out:
1. How'd he get me? Hidden somewhere? It was wide open road where you could see for over a mile, and nothing even close to the road he could hide in...
2. What are the rules in SC? I know in Atlanta they have to write down that radar or laser was used, and when it was calibrated... They also have to be within 500ft (or meters, I can't remember) of you for it to be accurate.
I know someone posted they had tons of tickets and always got out of them. Where is that link?
For the record, SC does not car about anything but the money!!! That $300 fine covers your court cost and ticket. If I were you talk to an attorney he/she can get you a "No competition or No-lo." It's kinda like a prayer for judgement. 9 times out 10 the judge will grant that as long as you have never been busted in SC! I got a ticket at Myrtle Beach. The Officer claimed that me and the car beside me were doing 75 in a 60 and in willfull speed competition
The officer didn't even have the speed on radar when I asked him to see it but claimed it was there. To make a long story short, I got out of it for only $300!
Good luck

Dude, I'm sorry to hear about that. I thought you had a radar detector. Anyway, hope you don't tack on points on your record.

2. Technicalities are blah blah in the Carolinas! Take it from someone with recent experience. My advice would be hire an attorney. He can probably get the citation reduced to a non-moving violation. If you take a "prayer for judgement", that will probably work, however drivers usually only have a single quantity of those for a period of 3 years.
Here's my example:
Got pulled over for doing 83 in a 55. I hired an attorney, which costed me a total of $390 including all the fees, court costs, etc. The end result was no points on my license, insurance, and I also retained my license. HIRE AN ATTORNEY!!!
Airplanes mang
That's what prob got ya or he was on an on ramp. You got a radar detector?

speed cannot be gotten from planes. I read that on some study of how radar works. They can view you and report you to a cop by the side of the road where he can clock you. Cops are sneaky, I hate them, they always get me when I'm going my fastest for just a few seconds. You're lucky they didnt get you at 110.
Naw man, the time you between a marked distance (white lines on road, other objects) and no one ever needs to clock you with radar, the cop will just pull you over.
I might be wrong but I thought if you got pulled over in a state other than your own you would only get a ticket and fine but no points, because the point system is different in every state?
Also, If he used vascar(timing between 2 lines, all local cops use it in pa because only states are allowed to use radar) to time you going 92 mph then that cop has the fastest hand in the world. Vascar has a margin of error involved with it, as well as the fact that there are vascar machines and there are stop watches, if he used the stopwatch then you could get off.
Maybe It would be more helpful if you could scan the ticket so we could see what it says. I thought they had to write on the ticket how they got you.

Yeah... SC is notorious for that.
Get a lawyer - you end up paying just as much but you'll save in the long run on insurance.

Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't GA not honor any requests to suspend a license from any state but their own?
I had a NY state trooper stop me 2 years ago and claim if I didn't pay the fine he would hunt me down and make sure they take my license (Yeah big threat). They even sent me a letter saying pay or else. That was 2 years ago. Nothing ever happened. (knock on wood).

Usually out of state tickets from most states do not raise your points or affect insurance at all, It might be easier to just pay it than to get a lawyer pay him take the time to fight it etc.

Is there anywhere I can find out for sure? Thanks for the info, guys. I was expecting to get flamed a bunch, but you know we've all done the "how fast does this car go" thing. I've easily topped out 4th so many times, but 5th is another story. I don't even want to top out 5th!

I've done it. You don't really realize how fast your going until you try to slow down. Then you get scared.

DO NOT just pay the ticket. I did that a couple of times. The tickets will eventually catch up to your insurance company. Mine did. They found both of mine at the same time. My insurance went from $1300 a year to $2000 a year. Pay a lawyer and get out of it. If SC is any thing like NC, a lawyer can get you out of it. I would guess it will cost between $300 and $500, but that would be well worth it in the long run. They can usually get it reduced to improper equipment.
I just have 2 points against me. I don't know what 6 points will do to your insurance.

Yeah, I've been pulled over before.....while at school..in Anderson,S.C. They just pull people over, without cause...fight the ticket! The cop that pulled me over Said"60 in a 45" I said "let me see your radar" Cop "have a nice day". I would fight the ticket.
