my distributor I think???
I think my distributor went out on but I not real sure. How do test it to be sure?
Heres what happen... I was driving my car on my way to school and my car just died. It felt like someone turned the car off while I was in the middle of driving it. I press the clutch in and the car just died. It will turn over but not start up. I don't think that I have a fuel issue because I can hear the fuel pump whining when I turn the key to the on position and because after I tried to start the car, a few times I smell gas. I have already checked the timing belt and it is fine. So the only thing that I can think of that is left is the distributor. Any Idea??
Car= 1991 accord LX f22a1 (internal coil)

if its your distributor i have an old one from a 91 accord lx with about 100k miles on it. probably needs a new cap and was working when i had it. I'll sell it for cheap.
put a screw dirver into the spark plug wires and let it touch the chasi of the car. then get someone to start the car. if u see sparks coming out then its not the distributor. if u don't see the sparks coming out then its the distributor.
you could also just remone the wire and stick your finger in the boot so it touches the metal inside crank the car and if you get a shock the the distrib is fine. it don't hurt and sometimes it is hard to see the spark with the screw driver trick
If your going to take it off, which is really easy and doesn't take more than a few bolts and minutes. I would bring the dizzy to autozone or Pepboys where they will check the dizzy for free. Then you will really know if it's working or not.
If you need to replace the dizzy, you should buy a new or rebuilt dizzy, and not one that has close to 100K miles. That's the time when they start to die anyways. Mine died at 115K, and I know other people who had their dizzy's dying around 100K.
Hope it helps.

my 1990 accord did the exact same thing, died coming up an off-ramp in CT. It turned out to be a carbon film buildup on the top center metal contact of the rotor. See here:

I had to have the car towed to a friend's apartment and tried replacing the ignitor module and the coil with no success. After two days, I saw this thin layer of carbon dust build-up on the rotor center contact. I wiped it off with my finger, put the cap back on and started it back up. That was 3 years ago. Haven't had a problem since.

Rule of thumb is, start with the cheapest part and work your way up. Start with the cap and rotor. Take the rotor off and find some really fine grit sandpaper and sand the tip of the rotor. That might do it. Check the contact points on the inside of the cap. Just things to start out with. Also check the plugs to make sure they are still good.
i think its your igniter. happened to my prelude... just driving and all of a sudden the engine just shut off. the car cranks but it wont start.
these threads always come at the most perfect time >> mo mom has a 4th gen accord too with the SAME EXACT PROBLEM .. it started 6 mos ago then she had the distributor changed and some other igniotion part >> we initially thought it was the main relay but she bought a new one and it was not the problem > 4th gens have this issue commonly apparently >>
so now shes gotta go back and find out what the problem is >> one of my buddies who works at the dealer told me that 4th gens have some issue with stalling and the problems usually related to the following parts:
1. main relay
2. distributor
3. cap and rotor but only if the car has not been tuned up in many miles
4. some other problem with the fuel injectors getting clogged (sounds like crap to me but i dont know)
good luck >> mom is going next week so i will re-post to let you guys know what the outcome was
