**PICS**CIVIC Wagon rear shocks vs. Hatchback rear shocks
Well, there was always the "assumption" that the Civic Wagon rear struts, would lower the car compared to the Hatch rear struts. Much like the 86-89 Accord front struts do.
But, I could never find a 100% definitive answer. So I decided to find out for myself.
Here is a pic of a 88-91 Civic Hatch rear strut (blue) compared to a 88-91 Civic Wagon rear strut (black)

You can see that the mounting cup for the spring is about 1.5 inches lower
You don't really get more travel since the body of the shock is the same, but you will have the car lower.
I couldn't take too many pics since I was at the store...lol and they were looking at me weird for wanting to compare these.
Here are some High Res Pics.

So I ended up buying the Wagon rears. Accord fronts are on Order and will have them tomorrow.
This car will be low Ala Hammed Hatch....:D

Good info. I'm glad someone finally bought the wagon shocks to end the mystery.
So, using these would get the car lower, but there would be little or no travel left. If someone is serious about going low with stock shocks, they're best bet would still be to flip the cups. Not that I recommend that.

Yes, you're right The travel will be almost non existent..so we'll have to see how it goes on the car.
That's where the Accord fronts were a good find, since they give you more travel, AND lower.

hmm, i guess we'll make our decisions on it when we see it on the car, are you going to use springs or sleeve coils?
I guess we'll have to see.
I guess we'll have to see.
the shock lenght seems to be almost the same so just the spring would be lower.
and not like you can make your car lower by doing that. your shocks will still bottom out.

i cut the whole spring seat off and left only a little tab of it left so my coil over sleeve can still rest on the shocks with out slipping thru. and slamed my car all the way down. and it looks like thats all it can go. if you go any lower then your shocks will just sit on its face.

looks like your car will sit ~1.5-2" lower on stock springs without having to sacrafice ride quality.

I don't know why all of you are getting all hyped up about this...
but if you look at both of the shocks...the body length is exactly the same. The only change is that the perch is lower.
This will in a sense lower the car just like a coilover setup.
The ride quality will be just like the stock 88-91 CRX/Civic shock
The 88 Accord front shocks have a 1.5" shorter shock body so you can get a nice lowered stance with a good ride quality.

Yeah, I was playing around with it today when I was doing the install, and I will not use the Wagon rears. I have coil over sleeves anyways (got a good deal, was going to use springs only) So I decided to just use the Hatch rears. It's pretty much only good for someone who wants to use stock or 1.5 inch drop springs.
I have the sleeves on the stock struts for now....because the Lower control arm bolt is seized, and the head snapped off.
I am getting some used LCA's with Poly bushings already pressed in for CHEAP, so I will be able to replace all the bolts, and put in aftermarket Civic shocks.
I have some pics I'll post up tomorrow of my ride, it took me a LONG time to get it just right and level all around, and with making sure the car doesn't scrap all over.
It's LOW, but it does't scrape, or bottom out.
And it rides nice, not bouncy like others.
the Sleeves had this "helper spring" thing, so it made the overall spring MUCH longer and I think this helps the ride quality, since the springs are not so short.

have edelbrock IAS with Eibach springs..
What do you think of the Edelbrocks? My friend added a set of Edelbrock shocks on his truck when we lowered it and it rides really nice. I'm cusious how well they do with the imports though.

bringing back from the extremely dead, so if you used the 88-91 hatch shocks on the wagon with wagon springs, would this RAISE my wagon?
I think this is good news for those of us who own wagons and can afford full coil-overs.
"WHY?"
Well if the rear shock bodis are the same length, but the only differences being the springs length and lower spring cup/perch it means that if i as a wagon owner purchase full coil-overs that say "exc. wagon" like they all do then the rears will still be perfect.
I can totally see why shocks and springs would have to say "wagon only" or "Exc. wagon" but why full threaded body coil-overs if the shock bodies are the same overall length/size on the Wagon and all other EFs?

Sorry to bust in here, but I haven't heard about the accord fronts....searched but no dice, could someone elaborate on this, they have a shorter body, lower perch and fit our ef's? Any problems running them?
