Default Reving problem with 03 civic hatch SI..

My friend has a 03 civic si hatch. He has a Aem cold air intake, and a catback exaust.

Yesterday his car started reving, somtimes from 1-2k somtimes 1-3k.. It just revs to 3k, drops back to 1k, revs back up.. entire cycle takes about 2-3 seconds..

After a few minutes of driving it just bounces at 2k..

He is in need of a oil change (like 500 miles over) and his battery is pretty much shot (been ran dead TONS of times)
hes also reset his ECU by disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes..

anyone know what the problem is? Guys at our local honda dealer said to get a new battery and change the oil, if that dosne't fix it to bring it in and have them look at it..

any ideas?

thanks guys

Is the car under warranty still? It sounds like theres a ground problem on the car, get a new battery and clean the terminals free of all battery acid build-up. The oil shouldnt matter but the battery that is supposedly "shot" would be something to look into. good luck!

The car should be under warrenty, Miles wise it is, as long as the exaust/intake dosen't affect warrenty..

I didn't really think oil was the problem, but better be safe then sorry..

also the check engine light came on today when it started holding at 2grand.. Been on ever since, i'v tightened the gas gap and checked all fluids.

Double check IAT sensor (should be in the intake) and all the hoses/etc that were installed along with the CAI.

Also check the oil, make sure its' not low.

If it still acts up, take it to the dealer.

I just talked to my friend (owner of the car)

he said at his technical school he did a scan on it

"i did a scan on it and it's an idle control malfuntion"

thats the message he sent me on aol

edit: he also sent me this message, the codes from the scan

"it's giving me 2 codes but code #2 is really generic, the first one is P0505 the second is P1505"

Hmm ok then that means that there is a vacum leak or something in the motor, i say F#$k it, take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. as long as you guys didnt install a fpr or anything that deals with the air/fuel/vacumm portion of the car, honda should fix it.....good luck

try adding a quart of oil. it's probably low. maybe even do the oil change that's needed!

there is a protection that limiits revs to under 4k when the oil level is low.

it sounds like there is something wrong with the IAC, but if it is under warrenty take it to the dealership, and i would put the stock in take on just to be safe cause some times dealership will be gay and say that your modification is what caused the problem and then they wont fix it for free.

ya. i say do what everyone suggested. although u dont necessarily NEED the oil change, make sure you have enough. check all hoses and electric connectors. although it may sound stupid, make sure clamps were tightened. because a leak in the intake would cause this. good luck
