base RSX, should i go with a cold air or short ram?
o3 base rsx. i wanna get an intake, im prolly gonna go with aem. i dont know whether or not i want a short ram or cold air though. i know the gians for the base are not as great as the type s. I want a good gain, and want it to sound good. NOT loud though, ive been there and am over the noise, just want a pleasant grunt. also how much harder is the cold air to install, how much cutting is exactly needed? Thanks in advance for any input.
The simplest answer is that if you're not worried about water, go with the CAI. It'll make the most horsepower out of the two but in terms of minor gains over the other. If water is a problem, go with the SRI.
Well i live in Southern cali, rain really isnt a problem here. when it does rain though it can rian like a bitch. I know s ome cars do have that prob, is the rsx the same with suckin up water? i also heard about comptechs icebox, opinion on that?
CAI!
had Injen SRI-heat soaks like a ****.
Currently rockin AEM CAI...1000X better than the SRI
but for ease of installation, get the Injen CAI

Well, I have aem SRI and yeah, I know the specs on CAI are better, but only like 2 hp max. Ease of install plus cost make the SRI better in a way. For the price of the CAI you can get SRI, hondata gasket and still have money left over for what ever.
Plus, who wants to even have the slightest chance of hydro-locking they're $20k car? But, if you only go track go with CAI. It sounds like to me this is your daily driver though.

you have some good points...but in cali, hydrolocking is not that big of an issue. also, after like an hour of driving you can really feel the car suffer with an SRI because of the heatsoak. And unless you get a used SRI (which most of the time its someone ditching it for a CAI) then prices arent that different.
LBSolagger: cuz u have a base, you can actually hear the 2nd intake runner switch at around 5k rpm, with a SRI its hard to hear that...sounds cool to me

Ya im leaning more towards CAI, prolly injen, since its appartently easier to instal. But still does anyone know anything about comptech's icebox?

I had the Comptech Icebox on my Base RSX for about a month before I ended up totalling the car. After putting it on it definitely pulled harder in mid-upper RPMs. Hydrolocking shouldn't be too much of an issue since the tube that draws in the cold air is not directly attached to the filter, it just connects to the airbox that encases it, basically like a hollow version of your stock airbox with a snorkel sucking in air from underneath the car. Oh and the Icebox is made of plastic in order to lessen heatsoak. Hope this helps.

does help does thanks, just need 289 bucks now. well actually i just need to stop being a cheap bastard and open up my wallet. from what ive been hearin the icebox is the way to go. that or the mugen box, but **** payin 650 for an intake. thanks guys.
The comptech doesn't give you the sound the CAI does...
I've sat in cars with both... CAI sounds meaner, Comptech is quieter and more descrete looking.
I'd go for the Comptech myself
