I have Tein SS (made for EM2 Civic) on my Si and
the ride is fine - no squeeking/creaking once
they were installed correctly (I installed them
wrong the first time).

Every person that has experienced noise from the Tein damper kits have installed it incorrectly in some way. What type of noise are you hearing? If it's a slight rattling sound, tighten every bolt you loosened when you installed the dampers.

the Tein SS looks like the way to go. What benefits do these have compared to the Basic Dampers?

basic, usually doesn't come with pillowball mount options and is not 16 way adjustable

ss dampers, have pillowball mounts for specific vehicles and is 16 way ride height adjustable

D2 coilovers? anyone have them? quick reactions? /

The people on ClubRSX seem to like the D2 coil overs. Can't beat $850 for an adjustable damper set.
