Default Clutch bearing??

When the engine is running idle and I take my foot off the clutch, I hear a weird noise under the hood (from outside the car only, not when inside the car). It's like a "mini-turbine" is starting... It's not loud though..... Also, when i engage the clutch rapidly without touching the gas (just to make it move rapidly in trafic...), I hear a noise inside the car, similar to the noise a used wheel bearing does when it's loose... It seems to come from my clutch bearing.... I'm reaaaaaally not a pro in mechanic, so I need your help..

BTW my car is 85,000 miles old and is a RS 1995.... and my clutch is running great besides of it.....Also, I don't have any mods

Thanks

If the clutch is adjusted properly you can test the throw out bearing by puching in the clutch very slowly. You feel the throw out bearing contact the pressure plate. If the noise starts when this happens and the whole time whie you have it in, it's your throw out.

If you only hear it when you disengage the clutch, it may still be the throw out bearing and you only hear it spinning down. If you decide to have it looked at, you may as well do the whole shooting match while the tranny is dropped (disk, plate, pilot and throw out).

Can I do a lot of milage with a defective clutch bearing without causing any harm to the transmission or other pieces other than the clutch? By "a lot of milage", I mean 40-50K...

There's no imminent danger, but be attentive to the sound you're hearing. If it changes from a whine to a squeal, this could be a sign of the release bearing being seized up. If it seizes, it can generate a lot of heat and damage the clutch fingers.
