Why does My Amp overheat???
I was driving for around an hour with my system nice and loud and all of a sudden I had no bass... I figure the Amp that's pushing my sub is overheating because I touched once before & it was very hot.
I have a 2-Channel Amp (cant remember the brand) bridged to push my one sub. Would changing the Ohm setting help? I think it pushes 200W or 240W when bridged, I can't recall.
Any ideas?
This happened to me last summer and it stopped and I didn't realize it was because it got cold.

well when ur amp over heats, it turns off to cool down.. just like a blow dryer.. if it gets very hot.. it shuts down to let it cool down.. so u can use it again, and to prevent you from frying/burning anything.. by suggestion is this..
either dont bump it that hard.. or just get a new amp with a fan inside it.. they never heat up that bad..
i know some kicker amps have them and audiobahn.. buts that all BLING BLING... a good amp but pretty cheap are lightning audio.. they have a fan peice u can buy to keep it cool..

Trying running your amp at the correct ohm rating. If you are bridging your channels to like 1 ohm and your amp is only rated to work at 2 ohms, then it will be producing too much heat and will shut down. Also, make sure that there is some air flow over the amp i.e. is isn't under your seat and touching the frame.

ya, or u dont have carpet over it..

or if it is coverred by something and not getting any air flow then you can install a small computer fan in there and just run it from your remote wire, so when the amps turn on so does the fan.
little cooling is better than no cooling at all

Not covered under anything, its actually mounted to the back of the rear seat.
I'll look into the Ohm setting thing although it says it can be bridged and all that. Maybe my grounds are bad or something.
I think I am gonna get a few of those computer fans... set some up for my other amp as well, because I've noticed that one gettin a bit warm too
