Relocated Battery: Who's done it in rear passenger side? Where'd you mount it to? Ended up putting i
Hey guys...i recently puchased summit racings aluminum battery box and moved it to the rear. I was looking to put it in the rear passenger side for best weight distribution. First of, is this the best spot for weight distribution?
And secondly...where did you drill the wholes to mount the box down if you did at all? From what i see your drilling into the frame of the car and also have to deal with the drop for where the spare tire goes. Which also stops you from putting your spare in...
I put mine driver side for the time being as there is already a bracket there creating a flat surface and bolt wholes.

Actually people tell me putting the battery right behind the pass seat is best. But you would obviously need a small gel battery. I ended up putting mine in the right rear. I used 2 L shaped brackets from Home Depot and bolted one next to the rt quarter trim panel and the other on the side of the spare tire well. I then used 2 larger and longer J bolts and a cheap billet battery hold down. That was basically it.
This probably doesn't help much since my rear is gutted, but I've been wanting to post these somewhere. I got some aluminum strips from menards and bent them into a cage, then drilled 4 holes in the chassis to bolt it down. Also, I have an oversized positive terminal connector (has outlets for 0, 2, and 4 gauge wires), so that's a toilet flapper covering it.

yeah my box is much bigger than that and would run of the edge of the wheel well. When you bolted yours down .... did you put a nut on the under side of it? or just screw the bolt into frame?
I have a nut on the other side, along with a couple of big fat washers and a lock washer for good measure. I didn't want someone pullig on the handle and having 4 big holes ripped in my frame.

My setup looks very similar to this, but I still have the trim panel in and I don't have a toilet flapper ha ha. oh one other thing I used a circuit breaker box also on the positive cable. I got it at an Audio store it accepted my 2 gauge wiring too

it has an optima red top battery inside
i never got around to putting a fuse in yet
the battery tie down that comes with the summit box is screwed through the base of the box, through the trunk floor and into a flat bar of steel on the underside of the car.
the strip of steel spreads the force out so the bolts don't rip through the floor
i'll take some more pics when i get off work
oh and i just flat blacked the summit box to match the interior

This has nothing to do with the original post, but I noticed something that I see on quite a few cars that you might want to take a look at.

I that picture take a look at your negative terminal on your battery. You see how the lower portion of the battery post is exposed and the upper portion of the terminal is not even on the terminal? You can fix that easily. I don't know who much it will help if any, but it will be less prone to slipping off and it will look a little better (at least to me
).
First loosen the terminal screw or completely remove it.
Then you can take a flat head screw driver and pry open the terminal. Normally I don't do that because it's a PITA sometimes and can distort the terminal and leave scratches and stuff. I find a socket that can easily be slid over the post. I put the terminal back on, place the socket onto the top of the terminal, and then gently tap the socket down with a hammer. It will fit the terminal snuggly al the way down to the bottom of the post without harming anything. Replace the screw and yerrr all dun!
WHO is that model in APEX CRX's avatar?????

Also if you ever are gonna go race at the track, you might want to take the rules into consideration. I know the nhra rules say the box must be all the way in the back on the right side.
Thats a nice way to put the battery in, and a good right up.

but doesn't coincide with NHRA according to above....hmmmm...

i was told that running a parallel ground with the power wire was the 'right way' to do it. i will find out why, im forgot why my friend said that . anyone else know, or hear of this.

There's just two bolts holding it down then? Could you of just bolted it straight to the frame and not gone threw the steel plate on the underside?

You could drill a hole into the frame, but I don't think you are going to be able to slip a nut inside the frame rail to bolt into. If you are thinking to use an extra long bolt then I guess you could do that, but who knows how well that will work in a crash. I would go for the shorter bolt.
