looping power steering lines
power steering broke, its a hassle when barely moving but not a big deal, the question is what do you think about running a loop in the line so the fluid stays in the lines and continues to circulate. What would be the best way to do it, I thought to run the lines back through the reservoir and possibly run a breather to release any pressure. Has any one tried this, or have any suggestions on it.
What's up man, I met you at the track last night (red h22 civic).
Anyhow, this has been done with the civic and integra racks and is pretty simple. I'd have to pull out my prelude manual to look at your steering rack because I believe it's got an extra line compared to our civic racks.
But you're right on track with the looped lines and breather... if that's what you want to do. There's a guy on here that was making a kit for this with a little reservoir, lines, and breather.
It's debatable whether it's even necessary though. I have a buddy that has run with his ps removed and the lines from the rack just cut and hanging wide open... he has never had any problems with it.
I looped mine with just hose and t fittings etc (no breather), not to keep it lubed but to keep dirt out and it has been fine also.
So take that as you may. It can't hurt to do it but I don't think it's really necessary. The power assist feature of the rack can be compared to the booster on your brake master cylinder... meaning it is just there as a pump to assist your steering. The fluid that runs through it does not lube the physical rack itself, instead it assists steering when it is pressurized by the ps pump.

I have read several first-hand claims that simply draining all the fluid from the rack and tucking the lines away somehwere or removing them entirely created no problems over a long period of time.
