Default Could someone help me find some specs for this engine? F22B4

Well, the other day a friend of mine who doesn't know a lot about Hondas, asked me which engine his Accord had. So, I looked under the hood, and found the code F22B4.

I searched for it in here, in google and in some Honda engine codes pages, and couldn't find any info. I figured you guys could help me.

It's a 98 Accord EX four door. Could it be that the Venezuelan Accord brought a different engine?.

TIA.

If you find anything useful post it up - I have an F22b3 (nz)and having the same trouble. From what I can gather there are only small differences in the motor. I might email Honda Japan and see what they know.

Unlike the F22b5 which has 150hp stock. I want to know why and how??? The b5 from what I can gather is a European/Russian Accord engine.

The differences must be in the heads right? I will see if I can take a pic of the engine bay, if that helps somebody.

I will try to contact Honda Venezuela to see if they have any more info.

http://www.accordinglydone.com only lists the f22b5,b6,and b8.....

thats odd, being that all other 6th gen I4's came with F23's.......

its def. not a USDM/JDM/EDM engine, so id bet that its a SADM engine.....hook us up w/ the stats if u can find out....mayb we've found a new swap option.....

Cool page, I'll be sure to let my friend know about it.

About the engine, yeah it's strange. Most Hondas here are a mix of JDM/USDM/EDM parts. They are in certain way unique. That can be a good or bad thing sometimes.

As for the stats, I'm trying to contact Honda Venezuela, they should know. And you guys can be sure I will post up whatever I come up with.

Alright I received a response from Honda New Zealand - it's below. Pretty much what I had thought.

Hi ***

You may well receive two replies to you enquiry. I hope mine is the more
informative. I cannot help you with technical enquiries but my long service
with Honda sees me as the unofficial historian of the company

I feel your engine was assembled in New Zealand in the days of CKD
(Completely Knocked Down) "Local Car Assembly".

In the early 1990's, Honda New Zealand tried to get access to the then
highly protected Australian Market by increasing the "Local" content of the
cars we produced. Our cars where about 39 percent local content through
labour, tyres, glass, seats, upholstery, seat belts and other components.

We calculated that by building engines this would increase local content
to 50 percent and that the Australian Authorities would accept them as New
Zealand Imports under the terms of CER (Closer Economic relations with
Australia). Unfortunately the Australians where able to circumvent our
actions by insisting that the Radiators be Australian made. There was no
suitable Australian made Radiator available and cost of setting up tooling
to produce a Unique Honda Radiator was prohibitive. We feel they knew that.

However, Engine Assembly continued at our Nelson Assembly Plant until its
closure in 1996.

There are no technical differences to the engine other than it being
assembled in New Zealand and I believe utilising locally produced gaskets.
Early engines suffered problems with oil leaks from the sump due to
incorrect translation and interpretation of the Japanese Build Manual but
this was rectified and cars in owners hands were modified during normal
service checks

In a small way ***, you own a piece of New Zealand Automotive History. I
hope you enjoy many more years of motoring pleasure from it.
