I dont know if I understand your question, but if you want to do it really cheap and not run into the issues of combining parts from several engines, espcially heads, you could just go with a b16a1 or a2.

doesn't a b16 head on a b18 block yield lower compression?
so factor that in with your plans

yea if you just have gsr block and b16 head you have a poormans gsr....only 9.6:1 compression if i remember correctly. just get a COMPLETE si head, and a COMPLETE gsr block. head gasket and valve cover gasket are the ontly ones you need. you will need an im gasket if they take the im off to ship it to u... all you need to add to really make it a poormans itr is some higher compression pistons. id get p30(jdm b16) or pct(ctr) pistons. id get itr rods too with the ctr pistons so they are press on and dont need to be machined.
