Default Built myself a new trunk

Floor is hinged so I can still get my spare tire out. I really couldnt do anything crazy. Its hard to sink anything in to the floor and still leave room for the spare. And I wanted to retain some of its use as a trunk. Took me about a day to install.

Pretty cool, you should post a pic of the assembly open.

There's isnt much to see underneath. Bunch of wires for the amp and my spare tire. Easily has enough room to come in and out. Just have to scoot it towards you a little bit. The weight keeps the floor from moving around/opening while I'm driving. Sadly it weighs a lot. All in all I just gained a good 40lb/50lbs. Oh well, looks tons better and the sub sounds so much better than when it was in my back seat.

I plan on doing the same, but I'm just going to replace the spare tire cover w/ a piece of 1/4" MDF or masonite, cut to the same shape as the spare tire cover and then a sideways cut w/ a piano hinge so I can open it and get to the stuff in the spare tire well. I'll probably just transplant those little foam blocks from the stock cover that sits on the spare tire itself, and I also plan on lining the underside w/ that eggcrate foam stuff. I'm also going to install brackets and use wingnuts so I can quickly put my sub box in or take it out, and it will all stay put.

Mine is just all the particle board I had left over from when I built my sub box. I cut it to the shape of the carpet with a little room to spare around the edges. Then I yanked the old foam from the tire core and used it to mount up the particle board. The thing doesnt touch any part of the car and it weighs so much it wont move around. sub is mounted with brackets underneath so you cant steal it. Its impossible to take the trunk out now. Not unless you rip the carpet up and undo the hinges.

I can't decide a good way to neatly run the wires for my amp. I have the amp mounted on top of my box so that it's all one unit that I can just disconnect and take out whenever. The bad thing though is that the wires have to drape all around it, especially the RCA cables because those face away from the rear seats, so the cables have to run around to the front of the box.

I dont like the amp attached to the sub. Too easy to steal all as one big piece.

If you want to clean up all the wires, all you can really do is use ziptie and then use those black hose thingies to hide everything. you can buy them at autozone or computer hardware stores I think

I was using leftover mdf board that I had cut to fit in my car months ago. I guess I cut it a couple inches too short. Isnt bad though. Thats where I grab the floor to lift it up. I'll go take a pic of the trunk open this afternoon

I make frequent drives between San Antonio and Houston. I'm not worried about getting a flat in either city. In both places I could easily call a friend or AAA. Out in the middle of nowhere between both cities I'd rather just do it myself than spend several hours waiting for someone to show up, if they show up at all.
