Default why are the rpm's on my tach so different from my vafc? like 1500 off!

hey thanks for clicking, my rps on my tach at idle are at like 800 while my vafc reads like 600... now i know i did search and i found out that it should be a little off, but when im driving, my vafc could read like 2200 and the tach is at like 3600... whats wrong?

Sometimes idling my tach will drop all the way down to zero...I look down at my vafc and its reading 850

Its normal i guess

the VFAC is much more accurate than the tach since the tach can by off-set physically or even faulty if there is a slight problem with the wiring.

Trust the vafc

I have a autometer shift light and i noticed the same thing. that when i have it set to like 8100 rpm my tach in the dash is reading off by a little like 500rpm. i have the shift light hooked into the blue wire for the RPM tester in my 94 EG and the wire comes from the dizzy so i know i got it hooked up right. Its just weird.

uhhhh...........so i stock needle's can be off by like 500-1200 rpm......
does that mean if someones doing 7800 rpm they could actaully be doing like 8800????

seems a bit weird to me...my tach and my vafc are dead on..check the wiring on your tach/gauge cluster. See if you can take it to a good mechanic that could fix it. If some people's rpm gauges are off a little at low rpms and off maybe 1000 rpms at high reving that could cause some serious problems with the motor in the future. But i guess I didn't have to tell you that...you have common sense

Whenever I have seen this, the gauge is showing HIGHER than the actual RPM. So when your guage says your redlining at 7k, your actually only at 6500k.

i think its usual to have that, but the afc is more accurate, it would be better to follow that and have a shift light

The real problem is you probably have it set to monitor a 6 cylinder. Easy mistake.

all i know, is when my friend rev's above 8500, the tach becomes innacurate (00 si) and the vafc is reading bout 200-300 below it

I had the same problem, I guess I didn't change the cylinder setting or something when I was running through it all.
