Installed a short shifter and high flow cat yesterday, when i started it up massive racket inside the car and some outside the car. after driving around the noise subsided but i'm still left with a loud rumble/rattle from 1500 rpm to 1800 rpm anyone have any clue what this may be .. all bolts are tighten.

ps: back when i first installed my itr catback after like a week i noticed a faint rattle from 1500-1800 rpm i chalked it up to heatshield rattle but i checked the heat shield i dont think its that.

 

Check your heatshields again.

It's a very common problem with 3g integras.

 

Thats what some people have suggested again, i think i'm gonna remove the heatshields but i'm starting to think the shifter is hitting the exhaust piping . i left it in neutral and rev the car to were it makes the noise and it moved forward. wat do you guys think ?

 

ya i would remove your heatshields that what i did

 

My shifter rattles against the heatshields with a stock shifter, so I seriously wouldn't be surprised if that's the rattle.

Look REALLY closely at the new cat... See any possible points of contact...

 

yea i'm gonna remove the heat shield will their be any problems with me running without the heat shield .. also .. on the skunk 2 short shifter .. their is a metalic KLINK KLINK when i shift 1st,2nd,3rd and 4th gear its quiet on 5th and reverse .. anyone know why it would make that sound ?

 

Yeah, I strongly believe that it is the heat shield. Not trying to burst your bubble, but try a search, this rattling under the shifter has been covered many times.

 

do you think the klinking is also the heat shield though ?
