Default Painting impact guard

I have a 96 lx and it has the nonpainted impact guards. I was wondering if anyone has painted these before on theirs (without taking it to a professional) and if so is it possible to take them off to paint them.

You can take them off. Most people just do a good maasking job and paint them while theyre still on the car. But if you wanna take them off just remove the door panels and pinch the clips to dismount them.

Do a search. Many people paint their side mouldings. They are not hard to do, just make sure you have the area masked off properly.

just remember... those impact gaurds arent meant to be painted...so if you dont do a superior job the paint could jus come flyin off sooner or later. even with a good job the paint could come flying off. this comming from a painter in the body shop that i work in (who has been painting all his life...i think hes in his 60's) good luck tho man

I agree...you could paint it but you are going to want to add a ton of flex additive to the paint.

the oem ones from the ex's are painted body color to match...i've never really heard of a problem with them, but just use primer so that it doesn't come "flying off"

i painted mine, and got the paint from http://www.towerpaint.com ...they are good guys...i believe i paid $15 a can and each can covers quite a bit...

Did you sand them down before you painted them. Also, what type, if any, of primer did you use after the paint. In addition, how many coats did you do and how has the final output turned out. Sorry I have so many questions, but I'm curious.

lol, i know i recomended primer, but did not use it myself...i just cleaned the surface and then applied 3 coats (let one dry before applying the next)...and i did it while it was still on the car and taped it off...the result was great...the paint matches and looks clean...i dunno, well worth the $45 i spent on materials i think (had to paint various other items as well)

those adhesive promoter is gooood stuff. they are meant to use on bumper, molding, lip, abs, urethane plastic or all that craps that flex like a rubber.

it sticks better than primer

Most automotive parts stores have them. Bulldog, 3M, and DuPont are some good products Ive used in the past.
